"These are your people"

The deeper meaning

The Three of Water is sisterhood and held belonging, the love that does not have to be earned. In traditional tarot the Three of Cups shows figures raising their cups in joyful celebration together. In the Cocoon Method, The Circle is the card of chosen family, of being held by your people. These are your people: the ones with whom you can simply be, without performance. The teaching is about the nourishment of true community, the joy that is shared rather than solitary, and the deep belonging that lets the body relax into being held.

Upright

When the Three of Water appears upright, you are held by your people. This is a card of chosen family, sisterhood, belonging, and shared joy. The card invites you to lean into your community, to let yourself be held by those who love you without conditions, and to celebrate together. These are your people. Let yourself receive the belonging rather than holding yourself apart.

Reversed

Reversed, the Three of Water is loneliness inside the room. There is isolation even among others, belonging that depends on performance, gossip masquerading as intimacy, connection without depth. The reversed card asks you to look honestly at whether your circle truly holds you, or whether you are performing for it, and whether the loneliness you feel is a sign to seek deeper belonging rather than more company.

The astrology

The Three of Water is Mercury in Cancer, the communicative planet in the nurturing, feeling sign of home and family. Mercury brings connection and exchange, Cancer brings emotional warmth and the bonds of belonging. Together they form the decan of heartfelt communication among loved ones, the joyful exchange of feeling that makes a circle into a family.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs belonging, love, and connection to community. In the Three of Water, the Heart is where the circle is felt, the warmth of being held by your people. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is the seat of belonging. When it is open and the belonging is real, the body relaxes into being held. When connection is only performed, the heart stays lonely even in the crowd.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind the people with whom you can simply be yourself. Place both hands on your heart and breathe into the feeling of being held by them. Let your shoulders soften, your body settle. Silently say: these are my people, and I am held. If the feeling is hard to find, let the longing for it be honoured. The Three of Water invites you to lean toward true belonging and to let the body relax into being held.
