The Cocoon Tarot Guidebook
A somatic guidebook to the seventy-eight cards
Welcome
The Cocoon Tarot is a deck born from the meeting of two lineages. It keeps the ancient bones of the tarot, the seventy-eight cards and their archetypal journey, and it lays over them the somatic wisdom of the Cocoon Method: a way of healing that works through the body, the breath, and the many parts that live within us. Every card here is the traditional tarot card reinterpreted, given a Cocoon name and a Cocoon teaching, while staying rooted in the meaning it has carried for centuries. Anyone who knows tarot can read this deck. Anyone who knows the Cocoon Method will find its deeper somatic layer waiting underneath. This guidebook holds the whole deck. The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana trace the soul\'s journey from the first leap into the unknown all the way home to wholeness. The fifty-six cards of the Minor Arcana follow that journey into daily life, through four elemental suits that replace the traditional ones: Fire in place of Wands, Water in place of Cups, Air in place of Swords, and Earth in place of Pentacles. Each card is offered here not only as a meaning to be read, but as an invitation to be felt in the body.
How to use this book
Each card has its own entry, and each entry follows the same shape so you always know where to find what you need. At the top you will find the card\'s essentials: its Cocoon name and traditional tarot name, its vertical theme, its yes/no/maybe answer for simple questions, its astrological correspondence, its chakra, and a single essence line that distils the heart of the card. Beneath the essentials, every card unfolds through six movements. The deeper meaning opens the card and tells you what it is teaching. The upright meaning describes what the card asks of you when it appears upright in a reading. The reversed meaning shows the shadow or distortion it points to when reversed. The astrology section explains how its planet, sign, or decan colours its energy. The chakra section shows how the card lives in the body. And the somatic prompt, the heart of the Cocoon Method, offers a simple practice to take the card out of the mind and into lived, felt experience. You can read this book straight through, or turn to a single card after a draw. To find a card quickly, look for its Cocoon name in the contents that follow, grouped by the Major Arcana and then by each of the four suits. Either way, let the somatic prompts be more than words on a page. They are where the deck becomes a practice rather than only a divination, where each card opens into an experience the body can actually have.
On astrology, chakras, and the body
The astrological correspondences in this deck follow established tarot tradition, so that readers familiar with the lineage will recognise them. The Major Arcana carry planets and signs; the Minor Arcana carry the elemental and decan associations of the Golden Dawn system, where each numbered card holds a planet in a sign and each court card holds an elemental blend. The chakra correspondences map each card to the energy centre of the body that most resonates with its teaching. Together, the sky and the body give each card two languages, one reaching upward toward the larger patterns of fate, and one reaching inward toward the felt experience of being alive. The Cocoon Method lives in the meeting of these two: the great archetypal forces, felt and worked with in the body.
