The Major Arcana
II · The Knowing
The High Priestess
Intuition and Inner Authority

"The body knew before the mind arrived"
The deeper meaning
The Knowing is the card of the inner oracle. The traditional High Priestess sits between two pillars, a veil behind her hiding what cannot yet be spoken. She does not explain. She knows. In the Cocoon Method, The Knowing is the wisdom that lives in the body before the mind has words for it. It is the gut feeling, the prickle on the skin, the quiet certainty that arrives without argument. She is the part of you that already knew, the part you talked yourself out of trusting. This card is the invitation back into that trust, and into your own inner authority.
Upright
When The Knowing appears upright, the answer you are looking for is not out there. It is already inside you, beneath the noise. This is not a card of action but of receptivity. Stop asking everyone else. Get quiet enough to hear what the body has been telling you all along. The truth here is subtle and it will not shout. The card asks you to honour the wisdom that does not come with proof, and to treat your own inner knowing as a real authority.

Reversed
Reversed, The Knowing is the inner voice ignored or drowned out. You have been overriding your intuition with logic, other people\'s opinions, or the sheer volume of your own overthinking. Perhaps you have mistaken your own stillness for emptiness, assuming that because no loud answer came, there was nothing there. The reversed card asks you to turn down the noise and trust that the silence itself holds something. Some things can only be known when you stop demanding they speak up.

The astrology
The Moon governs the tides, the cycles, the hidden and the instinctual. It rules the part of us that operates below conscious awareness, the dreams, the moods, the bodily rhythms we do not control. Lunar energy is receptive rather than active. It does not push, it reflects and absorbs. The Knowing works with Moon energy because intuition is lunar by nature, it rises and falls, it speaks in symbol and feeling rather than in plain statement, and it asks to be received rather than seized.
The chakra
The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) sits between the brows and governs insight, intuition, and inner sight. It is the seat of perception that goes beyond the five senses. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is where the body\'s knowing becomes conscious, where a gut feeling rises into clear inner seeing. When this centre is open, you trust what you perceive even without external confirmation. When it is clouded, you doubt your own perception and look outward for what only inward stillness can reveal.
Somatic prompt
Find a quiet place and close your eyes. Breathe until the thinking begins to settle. Bring to mind a question you have been turning over. Now drop your attention from your head down into your chest and belly. Ask the question again, gently, and wait. Do not reach for the answer. Let the body respond in sensation, a softening, a tightening, a pull. The Knowing teaches you to read these signals as language. Trust the first quiet response, not the loud one.
