Expansion and Faith

"What you set in motion is moving"
The deeper meaning
The Three of Fire is expansion and faith, the moment after you have launched, when the work is done and now you must wait and trust. In traditional tarot the Three of Wands shows a figure on a cliff watching ships sail out toward the horizon, their efforts already in motion across the water. In the Cocoon Method, The Ships Have Sailed is the card of what you set in motion moving through the world beyond your control. The doing is finished for now. What remains is the harder work of faith, of trusting the launch while the harvest is still on its way back to you.
Upright
When the Three of Fire appears upright, what you set in motion is moving. Your earlier efforts are travelling out into the world, gathering momentum, beginning to return. This is a card of expansion and of faith in the launch. The card asks you to trust what you began and to resist the urge to call the ships back early. Stand on the cliff, watch the horizon, and let what is in motion complete its journey.

Reversed
Reversed, the Three of Fire is the ships called back before they could arrive. Delays are met with despair, impatience erodes the faith, and you give up just before the return. The reversed card asks you to notice where your faith is running out too soon. Expansion takes time. What you launched is still on its way. Do not mistake the waiting for failure.

The astrology
The Three of Fire is Sun in Aries, the visionary force of the leader and pioneer. The Sun brings radiance, confidence, and the steady light of selfhood to the initiating fire of Aries. This is the energy of someone who has acted boldly and now stands in the confidence of what they set in motion, the warmth of self-trust that allows them to wait with faith rather than anxiety.
The chakra
The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs confidence and the steady inner fire of self-trust. In the Three of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where faith in your own launch lives, the quiet confidence that what you began was right even though the results are not yet visible. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that holds steady through the waiting. When it is strong, you can trust the ships to return.
Somatic prompt
Stand tall and imagine the horizon before you, with everything you have set in motion travelling out across it. Breathe into your solar plexus and feel the warmth of your own confidence. Silently say: what I began is moving, and I can trust the return. Notice any urge to grab the ships back, and let it soften. The Three of Fire invites you to practise the steady faith of standing on the cliff and letting what is in motion arrive in its own time.
