The Cocoon Tarot

Seventy-Eight Cards · Major and Minor Arcana

Tarot · Astrology · Chakra · The Body

Welcome to the Cocoon Tarot

The Cocoon Tarot is a deck born from the meeting of two lineages. It keeps the ancient bones of the tarot, the seventy-eight cards and their archetypal journey, and it lays over them the somatic wisdom of the Cocoon Method: a way of healing that works through the body, the breath, and the many parts that live within us. Every card here is the traditional tarot card reinterpreted, given a Cocoon name and a Cocoon teaching, while staying rooted in the meaning it has carried for centuries. Anyone who knows tarot can read this deck. Anyone who knows the Cocoon Method will find its deeper somatic layer waiting underneath. This guidebook holds the whole deck. The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana trace the soul\'s journey from the first leap into the unknown all the way home to wholeness. The fifty-six cards of the Minor Arcana follow that journey into daily life, through four elemental suits that replace the traditional ones: Fire in place of Wands, Water in place of Cups, Air in place of Swords, and Earth in place of Pentacles. Each card is offered here not only as a meaning to be read, but as an invitation to be felt in the body.

How to use this book

Each card has its own entry, and each entry follows the same shape so you always know where to find what you need. At the top you will find the card\'s essentials: its Cocoon name and traditional tarot name, its vertical theme, its yes/no/maybe answer for simple questions, its astrological correspondence, its chakra, and a single essence line that distils the heart of the card. Beneath the essentials, every card unfolds through six movements. The deeper meaning opens the card and tells you what it is teaching. The upright meaning describes what the card asks of you when it appears upright in a reading. The reversed meaning shows the shadow or distortion it points to when reversed. The astrology section explains how its planet, sign, or decan colours its energy. The chakra section shows how the card lives in the body. And the somatic prompt, the heart of the Cocoon Method, offers a simple practice to take the card out of the mind and into lived, felt experience. You can read this book straight through, or turn to a single card after a draw. To find a card quickly, look for its Cocoon name in the contents that follow, grouped by the Major Arcana and then by each of the four suits. Either way, let the somatic prompts be more than words on a page. They are where the deck becomes a practice rather than only a divination, where each card opens into an experience the body can actually have.

On astrology, chakras, and the body

The astrological correspondences in this deck follow established tarot tradition, so that readers familiar with the lineage will recognise them. The Major Arcana carry planets and signs; the Minor Arcana carry the elemental and decan associations of the Golden Dawn system, where each numbered card holds a planet in a sign and each court card holds an elemental blend. The chakra correspondences map each card to the energy centre of the body that most resonates with its teaching. Together, the sky and the body give each card two languages, one reaching upward toward the larger patterns of fate, and one reaching inward toward the felt experience of being alive. The Cocoon Method lives in the meeting of these two: the great archetypal forces, felt and worked with in the body.

The Twenty-Two Cards of the Soul's Journey

The great archetypes, from the first leap into the unknown to the arrival home in wholeness.

The Major Arcana

0 · The Leap

The Fool

Courage and New Beginnings

YESUranusCrown (Sahasrara)

"Trust the unknown calling you"

The deeper meaning

The Leap is the card of beginning. The moment before the first step, when the cliff is real and the next ground has not yet appeared. The traditional Fool walks toward the edge with a small bag and a flower, eyes turned upward, seemingly oblivious to the drop. He is not foolish. He is the holy fool, the one who has not yet been taught to fear the leap. He goes because something in him has heard the call. In the Cocoon Method, The Leap is the body that says yes before the mind has worked out the plan. It is the moment the inner knowing becomes louder than the inner doubt, and you find yourself already moving before you have logically decided to move.

Upright

When The Leap appears upright, life is asking you to begin. Something new is calling, and the only honest answer is movement. You may not have the full plan. You may not see the next ground. That is the nature of this card. It is not asking you to be certain, it is asking you to trust the call and step. The body knows. It has known for a while. This is permission to follow it.

Keywordscourage · new beginnings · innocence · spontaneity · free spirit · potential

Reversed

Reversed, The Leap is fear wearing the clothes of readiness. You keep preparing, researching, waiting for the conditions to be perfect, and the perfect moment never comes because the waiting is the avoidance. Or it is the opposite, recklessness mistaken for courage, leaping without listening to the body at all. Either way the card asks you to come back to the quiet knowing underneath the noise. The real leap is neither frozen nor frantic.

Keywordsparalysis · overthinking · holding back · recklessness · poor judgement

The astrology

Uranus is the planet of sudden awakening, liberation, the lightning bolt that breaks the old pattern. It does not arrive gently. It arrives as the impulse you cannot explain, the urge to do the thing that makes no sense to anyone watching. Uranus is the part of you that refuses to stay small, that would rather leap than slowly suffocate. When this energy moves through you, you feel the pull toward freedom in the body before the mind can argue.

The chakra

The Crown chakra (Sahasrara) sits at the top of the head and connects you to what is larger than your individual self. The Leap is a Crown card because the call to begin does not come from strategy, it comes from above and beyond the thinking mind. When the Crown is open, you can trust a knowing that has no logical proof. You feel held by something you cannot name, and that holding is what makes the leap possible.

Somatic prompt

Stand up. Feel your feet on the ground. Take three slow breaths into your belly. Now ask: what is calling me right now, and where do I feel it in my body? Do not answer with your mind. Wait until the body answers. Notice where the yes lives, the chest, the gut, the throat. Place a hand there. The Leap invites you to take one small real step toward the thing that is calling, today, before the mind talks you out of it.

The Major Arcana

I · The Weaver

The Magician

Creation and Mastery

YESMercuryThroat (Vishuddha)

"Everything you need is already in your hands"

The deeper meaning

The Weaver is the channel. The traditional Magician stands with one hand to the sky and one to the earth, the conduit through which the unseen becomes seen. On the table before him lie the raw materials of creation, and he knows how to use them. In the Cocoon Method, The Weaver is the somatic Magician. She does not create from force or cleverness. She creates from the body as instrument, letting life force move through her hands into form. She is the one who trusts what the hands already know before the mind has named it.

Upright

When The Weaver appears upright, you are being reminded that you already have everything you need to make the thing you want to make. The materials are in your hands. The skill is in your body. This is a card of creative power and clean channelling, the moment when vision becomes form because you stop doubting and let it move through you. Begin the work. You are the instrument, and the instrument is ready.

Keywordscreation · mastery · the body as instrument · sacred craft · life force

Reversed

When The Weaver appears reversed, the channel has gone crooked. The skill is being used without the heart. The hands are creating but the body is disconnected from the vision. This is the manipulator, the trickster, the magician who has forgotten he is the instrument and started to believe he is the source. In the Cocoon Method, this is the part that creates from ego instead of essence, that uses charisma to control rather than to channel. Come back to the body. The magic is real but it cannot be forced.

Keywordsmanipulation · trickery · gifts misused · ego · disconnection

The astrology

Mercury is the planet of communication, the hands, the channel between worlds. In myth, Mercury carried messages between gods and humans, between the living and the dead. Mercury rules the nervous system, the breath, the throat, the speed of thought becoming word. When Mercury energy flows clean, ideas become form effortlessly. When it is blocked, you cannot find the words, the vision will not land in the body. The Weaver works with Mercury directly. Her gift is the clean channel between vision and form.

The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) is the bridge between the inner world and the outer world. It is where vision becomes voice, where feeling becomes word, where the unseen finds its way into form through expression. In the Cocoon Method, the Throat is the somatic channel of creation. When you create from a closed throat, the work feels strangled and inauthentic. When you create from an open throat, the work moves through you with ease. The Weaver lives in this bridge.

Somatic prompt

Place one hand on your throat and one hand on your belly. Take three slow breaths. Ask: what wants to be made through me right now? Listen with your hands, not your mind. Notice what arises in the body. The Weaver invites you to begin from the body\'s knowing, not the mind\'s planning. Trust the first thing that wants to come through you, and make something today, however small.

The Major Arcana

II · The Knowing

The High Priestess

Intuition and Inner Authority

MAYBEMoonThird Eye (Ajna)

"The body knew before the mind arrived"

The deeper meaning

The Knowing is the card of the inner oracle. The traditional High Priestess sits between two pillars, a veil behind her hiding what cannot yet be spoken. She does not explain. She knows. In the Cocoon Method, The Knowing is the wisdom that lives in the body before the mind has words for it. It is the gut feeling, the prickle on the skin, the quiet certainty that arrives without argument. She is the part of you that already knew, the part you talked yourself out of trusting. This card is the invitation back into that trust, and into your own inner authority.

Upright

When The Knowing appears upright, the answer you are looking for is not out there. It is already inside you, beneath the noise. This is not a card of action but of receptivity. Stop asking everyone else. Get quiet enough to hear what the body has been telling you all along. The truth here is subtle and it will not shout. The card asks you to honour the wisdom that does not come with proof, and to treat your own inner knowing as a real authority.

Keywordsintuition · inner authority · sacred mystery · the still feminine · listening

Reversed

Reversed, The Knowing is the inner voice ignored or drowned out. You have been overriding your intuition with logic, other people\'s opinions, or the sheer volume of your own overthinking. Perhaps you have mistaken your own stillness for emptiness, assuming that because no loud answer came, there was nothing there. The reversed card asks you to turn down the noise and trust that the silence itself holds something. Some things can only be known when you stop demanding they speak up.

Keywordsself-doubt · ignored intuition · disconnection · suppression · noise

The astrology

The Moon governs the tides, the cycles, the hidden and the instinctual. It rules the part of us that operates below conscious awareness, the dreams, the moods, the bodily rhythms we do not control. Lunar energy is receptive rather than active. It does not push, it reflects and absorbs. The Knowing works with Moon energy because intuition is lunar by nature, it rises and falls, it speaks in symbol and feeling rather than in plain statement, and it asks to be received rather than seized.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) sits between the brows and governs insight, intuition, and inner sight. It is the seat of perception that goes beyond the five senses. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is where the body\'s knowing becomes conscious, where a gut feeling rises into clear inner seeing. When this centre is open, you trust what you perceive even without external confirmation. When it is clouded, you doubt your own perception and look outward for what only inward stillness can reveal.

Somatic prompt

Find a quiet place and close your eyes. Breathe until the thinking begins to settle. Bring to mind a question you have been turning over. Now drop your attention from your head down into your chest and belly. Ask the question again, gently, and wait. Do not reach for the answer. Let the body respond in sensation, a softening, a tightening, a pull. The Knowing teaches you to read these signals as language. Trust the first quiet response, not the loud one.

The Major Arcana

III · The Mother Field

The Empress

Abundance and Creative Power

YESVenusHeart (Anahata)

"You are allowed to take up this much space"

The deeper meaning

The Mother Field is the card of abundance and embodied creative power. The traditional Empress sits surrounded by a flourishing landscape, pregnant with possibility, at ease in her own fullness. She is nature itself, generous and generative. In the Cocoon Method, The Mother Field is the body allowed to be fully alive, sensual, nourished, taking up space without apology. She is not the striving feminine but the receptive, fertile one who knows that creation does not have to be forced. It grows because the conditions are right and she allows it.

Upright

When The Mother Field appears upright, you are entering a season of abundance and creative fertility. Something wants to grow through you, a project, a relationship, an aspect of yourself coming into fullness. The card asks you to nourish it the way the earth nourishes a seed, and to let yourself receive. It is also a reminder of your right to pleasure, to comfort, to taking up space. You do not have to earn your existence. You are allowed to be this alive.

Keywordsabundance · fertility · creativity · nourishment · nature · the body

Reversed

Reversed, The Mother Field points to a block in the flow of nourishment. The garden is full but the gardener is thirsty: you are pouring into everyone else and leaving nothing for yourself. Or the creative well feels dry, cut off from the senses and the body. The reversed card asks you to return to your own body, to receive before you give again, and to remember that you cannot pour from a field you never water.

Keywordscreative block · self-neglect · over-giving · disconnection from the body

The astrology

Venus is the planet of love, beauty, pleasure, and value. It governs what we find beautiful, what we desire, and how we receive. Venusian energy is sensual and relational, drawn to harmony and ease. It is the force that makes us want to adorn, to nourish, to enjoy. The Mother Field carries Venus fully. She does not apologise for wanting beauty or pleasure. She understands that delight is not frivolous, it is part of how life renews itself.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) is the centre of love, receiving, and open-hearted connection to life. In The Mother Field, the Heart is where abundance is taken in rather than only given out. In the Cocoon Method, this is where you learn that receiving is not selfish, that letting nourishment reach you is part of staying generative. When the Heart is open, life feels abundant and you can both give and take freely. When it closes, you give until you are empty and call it love.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over the centre of your chest, then let them rest low on your belly. Breathe and feel the body rise and fall. Silently offer yourself this permission: I am allowed to take up this much space. Notice any voice that says you should be smaller or quieter. The Mother Field invites you to stay with the breath until the body softens into its own fullness. Then ask what would nourish you today, and give yourself one small piece of it.

The Major Arcana

IV · The Structure

The Emperor

Authority and Boundaries

YESAriesSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Decide. Build. Stand in your own authority"

The deeper meaning

The Structure is the card of sacred order and self-authority. The traditional Emperor sits on a stone throne, having built something that endures. He is the principle of form, the container that allows life to take shape. In the Cocoon Method, The Structure is the inner authority that says: I decide, I build, I hold the line. It is not domination. It is the loving discipline of giving your life a shape strong enough to hold what matters. It is also the body\'s clear no, the boundary that protects the soft, alive thing inside.

Upright

When The Structure appears upright, it is time to take charge of your own life with steady, grounded authority. Make the decision you have been avoiding. Build the framework, the routine, the boundary your situation needs. This card asks you to stop waiting for permission and become the authority in your own life. Structure is not the enemy of freedom. The right structure is what makes real freedom possible.

Keywordsauthority · structure · boundaries · sovereignty · order · the body\'s no

Reversed

Reversed, The Structure shows authority distorted. The shelter has become the cage: the boundary that once protected has hardened into rigidity and control, the need to dominate, the order that crushes life rather than holding it. Or structure has collapsed entirely into a life with no spine. The reversed card asks where you are gripping too tightly or refusing to take charge at all. Healthy authority is firm and flexible, both rooted and responsive.

Keywordsrigidity · control · dominance · cold authority · fear-based power

The astrology

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, cardinal fire, the initiating force. It is the energy of the pioneer, the one who acts, decides, and leads. Aries does not deliberate endlessly, it moves. The Structure carries Aries because true authority requires the courage to decide and the drive to build. Aries reminds us that order is not passive, it is created by someone willing to take the first decisive action.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) sits above the navel and governs personal power, will, and the sense of agency. It is the fire in the belly from which authority and self-command arise. In the Cocoon Method, the Solar Plexus is where The Structure lives, because the power to decide and to set a boundary is felt as a steady fire in the core. When this centre is strong, you stand in your own authority without anxiety. When it is depleted, you either grasp for control or collapse.

Somatic prompt

Sit or stand with your spine tall. Press your feet into the floor and feel the support of the ground. Breathe into the area above your navel and imagine a steady fire there. Bring to mind a decision you have been postponing, and a structure your life needs right now. Feel into your body\'s clear yes and clear no. The Structure asks you to commit, from that grounded centre, to building one of them.

The Major Arcana

V · The Teaching

The Hierophant

Wisdom and Tradition

MAYBETaurusThroat (Vishuddha)

"What you have lived is asking to be passed on"

The deeper meaning

The Teaching is the card of wisdom, lineage, and the passing on of what has been lived. The traditional Hierophant is the keeper of tradition, the bridge between the divine and the human community. In the Cocoon Method, The Teaching is not about blind acceptance of authority. It is about embodied knowledge, the wisdom you have earned through living, and the moment it is ready to be passed on. It is also about finding the teaching your body recognises as true, and recognising that you may now be the one with something to transmit.

Upright

When The Teaching appears upright, wisdom is moving, either toward you through a mentor or tradition, or out of you toward someone who needs what you have lived. This is a card of learning and of teaching, of belonging to a lineage larger than yourself. It may be time to seek guidance, or to recognise that your own hard-won knowledge is asking to be shared. Stay discerning, and trust what your body confirms as true.

Keywordswisdom · tradition · embodied knowledge · lineage · mentorship

Reversed

Reversed, The Teaching warns of dogma, of tradition emptied of meaning, of the rule remembered while the meaning is forgotten. It can show blind conformity, or an authority that demands obedience rather than awakening. It can also show wisdom withheld out of fear, or knowledge passed on as control. The reversed card asks you to return to the living source beneath the rule, and to keep only the teaching that still carries real meaning in the body.

Keywordsdogma · rigidity · authority misused · empty rules · disconnection from source

The astrology

Taurus is fixed earth, the sign of stability, endurance, and the steady accumulation of value over time. It governs what we hold sacred and are willing to preserve. Taurus does not rush, it deepens. The Teaching carries Taurus because real wisdom is not acquired quickly, it is cultivated, tested, and held over time. Taurus reminds us that the most enduring teachings are the ones that have proven themselves across the seasons.

The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) governs expression and the giving and receiving of truth. In The Teaching, the Throat is the channel of transmission, the way wisdom passes through the spoken and heard word. In the Cocoon Method, the Throat is also where you discern whether what you are told resonates as true. An open Throat both speaks honestly and receives teaching with discernment, keeping what fits and releasing what does not.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a piece of wisdom you carry, something life has taught you. Place a hand on your throat and another on your heart. Speak it aloud, softly. Notice what happens in your body, whether the throat opens or tightens. The Teaching invites you to use the body as a tuning fork for truth, and to consider what you have lived that is now ready to be passed on to someone who needs it.

The Major Arcana

VI · The Choice

The Lovers

Union and Alignment

YESGeminiHeart (Anahata)

"Choose with the whole body"

The deeper meaning

The Choice is the card of love and of the decision that love asks of us. The traditional Lovers stand beneath an angel, in a moment of meeting and of decision, the union of opposites into something whole. In the Cocoon Method, The Choice is about choosing in alignment with what is true for you rather than from fear or habit, and about the deep intimacy that becomes possible when you show up fully. It is not only romantic. It is any meeting where, joined, two things become more than they were apart, and every union worth having begins with a true choice made with the whole body.

Upright

When The Choice appears upright, love and connection are present or available, and a meaningful choice is being asked of you. This may be a relationship deepening, a coming together, a moment of real intimacy. It is also a card of alignment, of choosing what your whole body says yes to rather than what fear or pressure dictates. The card asks you to choose openly and bravely, and to let yourself be truly seen.

Keywordsunion · sacred choice · alignment · partnership · the body\'s yes

Reversed

Reversed, The Choice points to misalignment, to choosing against yourself to keep the peace. You may be abandoning your own truth to stay safe, to be liked, to avoid conflict. There may be a relationship where you disappear, or a choice you keep deferring because committing feels too exposing. The reversed card asks you to look honestly at where your choices and your truth have parted ways, and to find your way back to choosing from alignment rather than fear.

Keywordsmisalignment · fear-based choosing · betrayal of self · disharmony

The astrology

Gemini is mutable air, the sign of duality, communication, and the meeting of two. It governs connection, exchange, the dialogue between self and other. Gemini holds both the tension and the delight of two distinct things in relationship. The Choice carries Gemini because love is a conversation, a continual meeting of two separate beings who choose, again and again, to turn toward each other. Gemini reminds us that union does not erase difference, it dances with it.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) is the centre of love, compassion, and connection. It governs our capacity to give and receive love and to stay open in the presence of another. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is where true choice is made, because a choice made from the open heart carries a different quality than one made from the fearful mind. When the Heart is open, intimacy feels safe. When it is guarded, we choose from protection rather than from love.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over the centre of your chest. Breathe into the space beneath your hands and feel it soften. Bring to mind a choice in front of you. Ask: what would I choose if I were choosing from my open heart and my body\'s clear yes, rather than from fear? Let the body answer. The Choice invites you to notice the difference between the contracted choice and the open one, and to lean toward the open.

The Major Arcana

VII · The Ride

The Chariot

Will and Direction

YESCancerSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"The reins are in your hands"

The deeper meaning

The Ride is the card of harnessed will and directed momentum. The traditional Chariot is pulled by two forces facing opposite directions, and yet the charioteer moves forward, not by eliminating the opposing pulls but by holding them both and steering. In the Cocoon Method, The Ride is the capacity to hold your inner contradictions and still move with focus toward what you have chosen. It is willpower that comes not from suppression but from holding the centre, the self-command that lets you carry your whole, divided self in one chosen direction.

Upright

When The Ride appears upright, you have the focus and force to move toward your goal, even through resistance. This is a card of momentum and of victory earned through determination. The opposing pulls within you, the doubt and the desire, the caution and the courage, can be harnessed rather than allowed to cancel each other out. Take the reins, choose your direction clearly, and move. You are more capable of forward motion than you feel.

Keywordswillpower · direction · victory · momentum · holding the centre

Reversed

Reversed, The Ride shows the chariot pulling apart. The reins are dropped, the opposing forces drag you in different directions, and the result is stalling or scattered effort. It can also show being driven by what was never named, a reactivity steering your life from underneath, an old wound at the wheel. The reversed card asks you to pause, gather the reins, and reconnect with where you actually want to go, and with what is really driving.

Keywordsloss of direction · scattered will · forced flow · runaway

The astrology

Cancer is cardinal water, the sign of the protective shell, the home, the deep drive to safeguard what matters. Beneath its soft exterior, Cancer has tremendous tenacity, moving toward its goal with the persistence of the tide. The Ride carries Cancer because true willpower is not cold, it is fuelled by what we care about and protect. Cancer reminds us that the strongest forward motion comes from defending and pursuing what we love.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs personal power, will, and the sense of agency. It is the fire in the belly from which determination and self-command arise. In the Cocoon Method, the Solar Plexus is where The Ride lives, because directed willpower is felt as a steady fire in the core. When this centre is strong, you move through obstacles with confidence. When it is depleted, even small efforts feel impossible and the reins slip.

Somatic prompt

Place a hand over your solar plexus, above the navel. Breathe into it and imagine a warm, steady fire there. Bring to mind a direction you want to move in, and notice the parts of you that pull against it. Without forcing them away, acknowledge them, then gather your attention back to the fire in your core. The Ride teaches you to hold the contradictions and steer anyway. Take one concrete step in your chosen direction today.

The Major Arcana

VIII · The Lion

Strength

Soft Power and Inner Strength

YESLeoHeart (Anahata)

"The wild parts answer to love"

The deeper meaning

The Lion is the card of soft power, the strength that masters not by force but by love. The traditional Strength card shows a woman calmly with the mouth of a lion, not overpowering it but meeting it with steady tenderness. In the Cocoon Method, The Lion is how we relate to the wild, frightened, or fierce parts of ourselves. No part of you is the enemy. The lion is not to be slain. It is to be met, understood, and loved. Real strength is the courage to be gentle with what is most feral inside us, and the wild parts answer to love, never to force.

Upright

When The Lion appears upright, you are being called to a strength that is soft rather than hard. There is a situation, or a part of yourself, that cannot be forced into submission but can be met with patience and compassion. This is mastery through tenderness, the steady hand on the frightened animal. The card affirms that you have this kind of courage, the courage to stay present and kind in the face of intensity. Gentleness here is not weakness. It is the highest form of power.

Keywordssoft power · inner strength · courage · grace · embodied confidence

Reversed

Reversed, The Lion shows strength distorted into force, or collapsed into self-doubt. You may be trying to dominate the wild thing inside you, suppressing an emotion with sheer will, which only makes it more feral. Or you have turned on yourself with shame, treating your own intensity as a flaw to punish. The reversed card asks you to lay down the inner whip and pick up the soft hand instead. Force closes the door that only love could enter.

Keywordsforce · self-doubt · domination · the lion turned inward

The astrology

Leo is fixed fire, the sign of the heart, the lion, radiant self-expression and warmth. Beneath its boldness, Leo carries a deep capacity for loyalty and generous love. The Lion carries Leo because the creature in the card is Leo\'s own, and the lesson is that the fierce, proud, fiery self is mastered not by crushing it but by loving it well. Leo reminds us that strength and warmth are not opposites, the strongest heart is also the most tender.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs love, compassion, and the capacity to hold ourselves and others with kindness. In The Lion, the Heart is the seat of the gentle power that meets the wild thing, because it is only from an open heart that we can be tender with what frightens us. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is where we learn to relate to our own parts with compassion rather than judgement. When the Heart leads, even our fiercest energies can be held with love.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a part of yourself you find difficult, an emotion or impulse you wish you did not have. Place a hand on your heart. Instead of trying to banish this part, breathe and silently say to it: I see you, and I am not going to fight you. Notice what happens in your body when you offer this instead of resistance. The Lion teaches that the wild thing settles when it is met with steadiness and care. Practise being the soft hand, not the cage.

The Major Arcana

IX · The Inner Guide

The Hermit

Inner Wisdom and Solitude

MAYBEVirgoThird Eye (Ajna)

"The light was always inside the lamp"

The deeper meaning

The Inner Guide is the card of sacred solitude and the wisdom found within. The traditional Hermit stands alone on a peak holding a lantern, having climbed away from the noise to seek what can only be found in stillness. In the Cocoon Method, The Inner Guide is the necessary turning inward that lets you hear yourself again. The lantern matters: the wisdom is not found outside, it is carried within. This is the card of the teacher who lives inside you, the light that was always in the lamp, waiting for you to grow quiet enough to see it.

Upright

When The Inner Guide appears upright, it is time to step back from the noise and turn inward. You need solitude, not as punishment but as nourishment, a deliberate withdrawal to reconnect with your own inner light. The answers you need will not come from more input or more company. They will come from silence. The card affirms that this aloneness is sacred, a pilgrimage inward, and that the guidance you are seeking already lives in you.

Keywordssolitude · inner wisdom · withdrawal · the teacher within · introspection

Reversed

Reversed, The Inner Guide shows solitude curdled into isolation. The withdrawal meant to restore you has become a place to disappear, a way to avoid the world and the people who love you. Or you have lost touch with your own inner light and are refusing the guidance that could help you find it. The reversed card asks whether your aloneness still serves you, or whether it is time to carry your lantern back down the mountain and rejoin the world.

Keywordsisolation · spiritual hiding · loneliness · refusal to return

The astrology

Virgo is mutable earth, the sign of discernment, refinement, and the quiet work of sorting the essential from the inessential. Virgo turns inward to seek what is true beneath appearances. The Inner Guide carries Virgo because the inward journey is also a work of discernment, sifting through the noise to find the clear signal of your own knowing. Virgo reminds us that solitude is not idle, it is the patient work of coming back to what is real.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs insight, inner vision, and the perception that goes beyond the senses. In The Inner Guide, the Third Eye is the lantern, the inner illumination that lights the solitary path. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is where solitude opens into clear inner seeing, where being alone becomes being able to perceive your own truth without outside confirmation. When this centre is open, aloneness becomes clarity rather than confusion.

Somatic prompt

Find a place where you can be undisturbed. Sit and let your eyes close. Spend a few minutes simply breathing, letting the outer world recede. Then imagine a small, warm light glowing in the centre of your chest, your own inner lantern. With each breath, let it grow brighter. Ask it quietly: what do I already know that I have not had the silence to hear? The Inner Guide invites you to stay in stillness long enough for the answer to surface on its own.

The Major Arcana

X · The Turn

Wheel of Fortune

Cycles and Timing

MAYBEJupiterSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Not the wheel. The one riding it"

The deeper meaning

The Turn is the card of cycles and the great wheel of change. The traditional Wheel of Fortune turns endlessly, lifting what was low and lowering what was high. In the Cocoon Method, The Turn is the wisdom of impermanence held in the body, the felt understanding that everything moves, that this too will pass. Its deepest teaching lives in its essence line: you are not the wheel, you are the one riding it. The circumstances turn, but there is a steady centre in you that can ride the turning without being thrown.

Upright

When The Turn appears upright, a cycle is shifting. A turning point has arrived, often beyond your control, moving you into a new phase. This can be deeply hopeful: if you have been low, the wheel is lifting. The card asks you to trust the larger pattern and the timing you cannot see, and to find the steady place in yourself that is not the wheel but the rider. Move with the turning rather than against it.

Keywordscycles · sacred timing · destiny · trust in the larger pattern · synchronicity

Reversed

Reversed, The Turn shows resistance to a change already underway. You are holding the wheel still with both hands, gripping a season that is ending, trying to freeze it in place. This creates the painful sensation of being at the mercy of fate, of bad timing. The reversed card asks you to soften your grip. The discomfort often comes not from the change itself but from the refusal to let it happen. The wheel will turn either way.

Keywordsresistance · clinging · misaligned timing · fear of change

The astrology

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth, fortune, and the larger pattern. It governs the broad movements of luck and opportunity and takes the long view, trusting that the cycles ultimately move toward growth. The Turn carries Jupiter because the wheel is Jupiter\'s domain, the great unfolding of fortune over time. Jupiter reminds us that even apparent setbacks are part of a larger expansion, and that trust in the bigger pattern is itself a kind of wisdom.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs our sense of personal power and our relationship to control. In The Turn, the Solar Plexus is challenged to find a new kind of strength, not the power to control outcomes but the power to stay centred as outcomes change. In the Cocoon Method, this is where we learn the difference between agency and grasping. When the Solar Plexus is healthy, we act where we can and release where we cannot, riding the wheel without being thrown.

Somatic prompt

Sit comfortably and bring to mind a situation that is changing, especially one you have been trying to control. Notice where the grip lives in your body, often the belly, jaw, or hands. As you breathe out, soften that grip, even slightly. Imagine your hands opening from a clench into an open palm. Silently say: I am not the wheel, I am the one riding it. The Turn invites you to practise the physical sensation of letting go until trust begins to feel possible.

The Major Arcana

XI · The Balance

Justice

Truth and Alignment

YESLibraHeart (Anahata)

"What is true is what aligns"

The deeper meaning

The Balance is the card of truth and alignment. The traditional Justice figure holds a sword and scales, seeing clearly and weighing fairly, cutting through illusion to what is actually true. In the Cocoon Method, The Balance carries a particular teaching: what is true is what aligns. Truth is not only an intellectual verdict, it is a felt sense of things coming into right relationship, of integrity between what you know, what you say, and what you do. The scales are not punishment. They are the body\'s recognition of alignment or its absence.

Upright

When The Balance appears upright, truth is being asked of you, and clarity is available if you are willing to see plainly. This may be a moment of decision that requires honesty about cause and effect, about your own part, about what is actually fair. The card affirms that you can trust clear seeing here, and that accountability taken willingly brings relief. Tell the truth, especially to yourself, and feel for the alignment that confirms it.

Keywordstruth · alignment · accountability · honest reckoning · fairness

Reversed

Reversed, The Balance shows truth being dodged, the truth waiting outside the door while you refuse to open it. There may be self-deception, avoidance, or an unwillingness to take responsibility. The scales are out of balance because something is being denied. It can also point to genuine injustice tolerated for too long. The reversed card asks you to stop avoiding the truth you already sense. The imbalance will persist until the honesty arrives.

Keywordsimbalance · self-deception · avoidance · injustice tolerated

The astrology

Libra is cardinal air, the sign of balance, fairness, relationship, and the weighing of opposites. Libra seeks equilibrium and is acutely attuned to what is just and what is not. The Balance carries Libra because the scales are Libra\'s own symbol, the constant calibration toward truth and right relationship. Libra reminds us that fairness requires seeing all sides clearly, and that true justice is the careful work of restoring what is out of balance.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs integrity and the capacity to act from a centred, honest place. In The Balance, the Heart is where truth and fairness are weighed, because real alignment is felt as a settling in the chest, and misalignment as a subtle wrongness. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart knows when something is honest and when it is not. When the Heart is open, you can face the truth without defensiveness and act with integrity even when it costs you.

Somatic prompt

Sit quietly and bring to mind a situation where something feels not quite honest, perhaps something you have been telling yourself. Place a hand on your heart. Say aloud the truest version of the situation you can manage. Notice whether the chest opens with relief or tightens with resistance. The Balance teaches that the body recognises alignment as a settling. Let yourself feel the difference between the comfortable story and the true one.

The Major Arcana

XII · The Surrender

The Hanged Man

Surrender and the Pause

MAYBENeptuneCrown (Sahasrara)

"The view changes when the grip lets go"

The deeper meaning

The Surrender is the card of the sacred pause and the wisdom of letting go. The traditional Hanged Man hangs upside down, yet his face is serene, even illuminated, because he has stopped struggling and is seeing the world from a completely new angle. In the Cocoon Method, The Surrender is the moment you stop forcing the outcome and allow yourself to be suspended in not-knowing. It is the counterintuitive truth that sometimes the way forward is to stop moving, to release control, and to let a new perspective arrive through stillness rather than effort. The view changes when the grip lets go.

Upright

When The Surrender appears upright, the situation calls not for action but for release. You have been struggling against something, and the struggle itself has become the problem. This card invites you into a sacred pause, a willingness to hang in the in-between, to surrender your grip on how things should go. From this suspended place, a new perspective becomes possible, one you could never reach by pushing harder. Let go, and let yourself see it differently.

Keywordssurrender · sacred pause · new perspective · trust · the in-between

Reversed

Reversed, The Surrender shows the pause turned stagnant, the pause that became the prison. The willing suspension has become stalling, the letting go has become resistance, the sacrifice has become martyrdom with no meaning. You may be stuck in limbo, neither releasing nor moving, clinging to control while calling it surrender. The reversed card asks you to look honestly at whether you are truly letting go or merely refusing to act. Real surrender brings peace.

Keywordsstagnation · martyrdom · sacrifice without growth · paralysis

The astrology

Neptune is the planet of dissolution, transcendence, surrender, and the merging of the self with something larger. It softens boundaries and asks us to release our grip on the controllable. Neptune does not work through force, it works through letting go. The Surrender carries Neptune because both ask the same thing, the willing release of control and the trust that something will hold you in the not-knowing. Neptune reminds us that surrender is not defeat, it is a doorway.

The chakra

The Crown chakra (Sahasrara) connects us to what is larger than ourselves and governs our capacity for surrender and trust in a greater intelligence. In The Surrender, the Crown is where letting go becomes spiritual rather than merely passive, where releasing control opens us to being held. In the Cocoon Method, the Crown is the centre of trust beyond the egoic need to manage everything. When it is open, surrender feels like resting into support rather than falling into nothing.

Somatic prompt

Lie down on your back, or sit and let your body be fully supported. Take several slow breaths, and with each exhale, imagine releasing your grip on something you have been trying to control. Let your muscles soften into whatever is holding you. Silently say: I do not have to force this. I can be held while I wait. The Surrender invites you to feel, in the body, the difference between the tension of pushing and the ease of release. Stay until something genuinely lets go.

The Major Arcana

XIII · The Release

Death

Endings and Transformation

YESScorpioSacral (Svadhisthana)

"What wants to live waits for what is finished to fall"

The deeper meaning

The Release is the card of endings and the transformation they make possible. The traditional Death card is rarely about literal death, it is about the profound, necessary endings that clear the way for genuine rebirth. In the Cocoon Method, The Release is the willingness to let a chapter, an identity, or an old version of yourself truly end, rather than dragging its corpse forward. What wants to live waits for what is finished to fall. Nothing new can be born until the old is allowed to die, and the release is sacred precisely because it is the place of letting go.

Upright

When The Release appears upright, something is ending, and the ending is necessary even if it is painful. An old chapter is closing, an identity is being shed, a way of being has run its course. The card does not ask you to mourn forever, it asks you to let the ending be complete so real transformation can occur. What feels like loss is also a clearing. Let what is finished fall. The version of you waiting on the other side cannot be born until the old one is laid to rest.

Keywordstransformation · sacred endings · letting go · shedding · rebirth

Reversed

Reversed, The Release shows an ending refused. You are holding what has already gone, clinging to what is over, afraid that letting go will leave you with nothing. This refusal creates stagnation, a life lived in the company of something already dead. The transformation that wants to happen is delayed by your grip. The reversed card asks gently but firmly: what are you holding that has already ended? Releasing it is not the loss you fear, it is the doorway you have been avoiding.

Keywordsresistance · stagnation · the ending refused · clinging to the dead

The astrology

Scorpio is fixed water, the sign of death and rebirth, of the deep underworld, of transformation through what is most feared and hidden. Scorpio does not flinch from endings, it dives into them, knowing the only way out is through. The Release carries Scorpio because both understand that real transformation requires a descent, a willingness to let something die completely. Scorpio reminds us that the most powerful regeneration comes from the places we are most afraid to go.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs the flow of life, creativity, and the cycles of death and renewal in the body. In The Release, the Sacral is where the old is composted into the new, where endings become the fertile ground of what comes next. In the Cocoon Method, working with this card means letting the body feel the grief and the relief of an ending without freezing the flow. When the Sacral moves freely, death and rebirth become a single continuous current.

Somatic prompt

Sit with your feet on the ground. Bring to mind something that is ending, or that needs to end. Notice the holding in your body, perhaps a clutching in the belly. Breathe low into your pelvis and, on each exhale, imagine setting down something you have been carrying. Silently say: what is finished is allowed to fall. The Release teaches that the body can let go once it stops bracing. Let the breath carry the ending through and out.

The Major Arcana

XIV · The Flow

Temperance

Integration and Balance

YESSagittariusSacral (Svadhisthana)

"Both. The art of the pour"

The deeper meaning

The Flow is the card of integration, balance, and the alchemy of blending. The traditional Temperance figure pours liquid between two vessels, finding the precise proportion that creates something harmonious. In the Cocoon Method, The Flow is the patient art of integrating opposites within yourself, the active and receptive, the parts that seem to contradict. It is not compromise that flattens, it is synthesis that heals. Its essence is both, and the art of the pour: the skill of holding two things at once and letting them become one living current.

Upright

When The Flow appears upright, you are being invited into balance and patient integration. Something needs blending rather than choosing, the finding of a middle way between extremes. This is healing through synthesis, allowing opposing parts of yourself or your situation to come into harmony over time. The card counsels patience, the alchemy cannot be rushed. Pour gently between the vessels. The right proportion is found through attentive, ongoing adjustment, not force.

Keywordsintegration · balance · the middle way · alchemy · holding opposites

Reversed

Reversed, The Flow shows balance lost, the pour spilled before the cups could meet. There may be excess, overdoing in one direction, burning out by ignoring moderation. Or the opposites within you are at war rather than blending. There may be an impatience that forces what can only happen gradually. The reversed card asks where you have abandoned the middle way, and invites you back to the patient practice of blending rather than battling.

Keywordsextremes · imbalance · impatience · scattered energy

The astrology

Sagittarius is mutable fire, the sign of the seeker and the philosopher, the one who aims beyond the visible horizon toward higher meaning and synthesis. Sagittarius blends experiences into wisdom and reaches for the truth that reconciles contradictions. The Flow carries Sagittarius because the art of integration is also a quest, the patient pursuit of the synthesis that makes disparate parts whole. Sagittarius reminds us that balance is not static, it is an aim we keep adjusting toward.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs flow, creativity, and the fluid movement of feeling and life force. In The Flow, the Sacral is where the blending happens, because true integration is felt as a fluid coming-together rather than a rigid balancing act. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is where opposites mix into a single current. When this centre moves freely, integration feels like flow. When it is blocked, the pour spills and the parts stay separate.

Somatic prompt

Sit comfortably and place a hand low on your belly. Bring to mind two parts of yourself that pull in opposite directions, perhaps the part that wants to push and the part that wants to rest. Breathe into your belly and imagine these two parts not fighting but slowly mixing, like two streams becoming one river. Let the breath be the gentle pouring between vessels. The Flow invites you to feel that you do not have to choose one over the other. You can let them blend into something whole.

The Major Arcana

XV · The Shadow

The Devil

Bondage and Liberation

NOCapricornRoot (Muladhara)

"What you will not look at is what holds you"

The deeper meaning

The Shadow is the card of bondage and the liberation that becomes possible when we finally look at what binds us. The traditional Devil shows figures chained to a block, yet the chains are loose enough to lift off, they stay because they believe they must. In the Cocoon Method, The Shadow is the encounter with the disowned parts of ourselves, the patterns, attachments, and compulsions we are ashamed of and keep in the dark. The teaching is radical: what you will not look at is what holds you. Seeing the shadow clearly is the first and most important act of freedom.

Upright

When The Shadow appears upright, you are being asked to look honestly at something that binds you, a pattern, an attachment, a compulsion, a story you keep in the dark. This is not a card of doom, it is a card of honest confrontation. The bondage is real, but it persists largely because it remains unexamined. Turn toward what you have been avoiding, with courage rather than shame. What you can see, you can begin to loosen. The chain only holds in the dark.

Keywordsshadow · addiction · disowned parts · attachment · the unseen chain

Reversed

Reversed, The Shadow is the chain finally seen, the hand beginning to lift it. The awareness is dawning that you are freer than you believed. This is the moment of reclaiming the disowned parts, pulling them back into the light, the body taking back its authority. The reversed card affirms that liberation is not far off, it has already started. The shadow recognised loses its grip.

Keywordsshadow recognised · liberation · breaking free · reclaiming authority

The astrology

Capricorn is cardinal earth, the sign of structure, ambition, and the hard-edged demands of the material world. Its shadow side is bondage to status and achievement, the heavy structures we build and become trapped inside. The Shadow carries Capricorn because the chains here are often made of very real, material things, and Capricorn knows their weight. Capricorn also offers the way out: the same disciplined clarity that builds the prison can dismantle it, once it is seen.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs survival and our most basic attachments, the things we cling to out of a primal sense that we cannot live without them. In The Shadow, the Root is where bondage takes hold, because compulsion grips us at the level of survival fear. In the Cocoon Method, working with this card means bringing safety to the Root, so the body discovers it can survive without the thing it is chained to. When the Root feels safe, the chains can release.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a pattern or attachment that binds you. Without judging it, place a hand on your lower belly and breathe. Instead of fighting the pattern, observe it with curiosity, as if shining a soft light on it. Ask: what is this trying to protect me from? Notice the answer in your body. The Shadow teaches that compulsions are usually frightened protectors, not enemies. Seeing the fear beneath the chain is how the chain begins to loosen.

The Major Arcana

XVI · The Crack

The Tower

Rupture and Awakening

NOMarsRoot (Muladhara)

"What was built on lies is allowed to fall"

The deeper meaning

The Crack is the card of sudden rupture and the awakening it forces. The traditional Tower is struck by lightning and crumbles, everything false in it brought down in an instant. In the Cocoon Method, The Crack is the moment a structure built on illusion finally breaks, often suddenly, always in service of truth. It is the collapse you did not choose and could not prevent, the one that tears down what was never solid. The teaching is that the rupture, however violent, is liberation. What was built on lies is allowed to fall, and its falling makes room for what is real.

Upright

When The Crack appears upright, a sudden upheaval is breaking apart something built on a false foundation. This is disorienting and often painful, the ground gives way, the illusion shatters. And yet the card insists the rupture is sacred. What is falling needed to fall. The lightning strikes only what was never true. The card asks you not to rebuild the same false tower, but to let the collapse clear the ground for something honest. The awakening is hidden inside the shock.

Keywordsrupture · awakening · sudden truth · liberation through collapse · the false self breaking

Reversed

Reversed, The Crack shows a collapse being resisted or delayed. You sense the structure is false, that it wants to come down, but you are holding up the wall that wants to fall, propping it up through effort and denial. This prolongs the disaster rather than preventing it. The reversed card warns that what is built on lies will fall eventually, and that the longer you delay it, the more painful the fall. Sometimes the bravest act is to let the wall come down on your own terms.

Keywordsdelayed collapse · denial · propping up · disaster postponed

The astrology

Mars is the planet of force, action, and the sudden release of energy. It governs conflict, rupture, and the breaking-open of what has been contained. Mars does not work gradually, it strikes. The Crack carries Mars because the Tower\'s lightning is Martian energy, the abrupt, forceful breakthrough that demolishes the false structure. Mars reminds us that some things cannot be reformed gently, they must be broken, and that the energy of destruction can also be the energy of liberation.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs safety, stability, and our foundational sense of security. In The Crack, the Root is precisely what is shaken, because the Tower\'s collapse threatens our most basic sense of ground. In the Cocoon Method, working with this card means tending the Root through and after the rupture, helping the body find a truer ground once the false one has fallen. When the Root reconnects to something real, the collapse becomes the beginning of genuine stability.

Somatic prompt

If something is collapsing or has recently broken apart, sit with your feet flat on the floor and your hands on your thighs. Do not try to rebuild anything in this moment. Breathe and let yourself feel the ground beneath you, the one solid thing that remains. Silently acknowledge: the structure fell, and I am still here. The Crack teaches that beneath every false foundation is the real ground of your own being. Let the body locate that deeper ground and rest there.

The Major Arcana

XVII · The Field

The Star

Hope and Restoration

YESAquariusCrown (Sahasrara)

"After the storm, the body remembers it is held"

The deeper meaning

The Field is the card of restoration after rupture. The traditional Star follows the Tower, a figure kneeling by water under an open sky, being healed by the stars. In the Cocoon Method, The Field is the soft return after the collapse, the body coming back online, the nervous system finding ground again. After The Crack breaks open what needed to fall, The Field is the gentle aftermath where hope returns, not naive hope but the earned hope of someone who walked through the dark. After the storm, the body remembers it is held.

Upright

When The Field appears upright, you are in a season of healing and renewal. After difficulty, the body and spirit are being restored. Hope is returning, faith is returning, the light is coming back after the long dark night. The card invites you to let yourself be held, to receive the restoration rather than rushing back into striving. It affirms that you have survived what was hard, and that something larger is now pouring healing back into your life. Let yourself be replenished.

Keywordshope · healing · restoration · faith · being held · renewal

Reversed

Reversed, The Field shows hope refused or faith lost. The well feels dry, the connection to source severed, the body so depleted it has forgotten how to be held. This is spiritual exhaustion, the inability to receive the restoration that is actually available. The reversed card does not shame this state, it gently names it. It asks you to find the smallest crack through which light might re-enter, and to let even a trickle of replenishment in. The field has not abandoned you.

Keywordsdespair · disconnection · hope refused · spiritual exhaustion

The astrology

Aquarius is fixed air, the sign of the visionary and the humanitarian, the one who holds hope for what could be. Aquarius looks toward the future with faith and tends the larger field of life. The Field carries Aquarius because restoration here is connected to a hope that transcends the individual, a sense of being part of and held by something larger. Aquarius reminds us that healing is not only personal recovery, it is reconnection to a wider field of meaning and belonging.

The chakra

The Crown chakra (Sahasrara) connects us to the source of healing and to the felt sense of being held by something greater. In The Field, the Crown is open to receive the starlight, the restoration pouring in from above. In the Cocoon Method, the Crown is where we reconnect to source after depletion, where the body remembers it is not alone. When the Crown is open, hope and healing flow in naturally, like water poured onto thirsty ground.

Somatic prompt

Lie down somewhere you can feel supported by the surface beneath you. Place your hands open at your sides, palms up, in a posture of receiving. Breathe slowly and imagine a soft light, like starlight, settling over your whole body. With each breath, let yourself receive a little more. Silently say: I am held, and I am allowed to be restored. The Field teaches the body to stop bracing and to receive. Stay as long as you need, letting the replenishment in.

The Major Arcana

XVIII · The Deep

The Moon

Intuition and Mystery

MAYBEPiscesThird Eye (Ajna)

"What cannot be seen is real"

The deeper meaning

The Deep is the card of the unconscious, the dream world, and the mysteries daylight logic cannot see. The traditional Moon shows a path leading into the unknown, everything lit only by reflected light. In the Cocoon Method, The Deep is the realm beneath conscious awareness, where the body holds knowledge the mind cannot yet articulate. It is dreams, instinct, the inner tides. This card asks you to trust what cannot be proven, to honour the knowing that comes through symbol, feeling, and the body. What cannot be seen is real.

Upright

When The Deep appears upright, you are in the territory of the unconscious and the intuitive. Things are not fully clear, and they are not meant to be yet. The card asks you to trust the body\'s deep knowing even when the mind cannot explain it, to pay attention to dreams, instincts, and the subtle tides moving beneath the surface. Something hidden is rising into awareness. Rather than demanding daylight clarity, move through the mystery by feel.

Keywordsintuition · the unconscious · dreams · inner tides · the hidden

Reversed

Reversed, The Deep shows the mystery turned to confusion or self-deception, confusion wearing the face of intuition. You may be lost in fantasy, mistaking comforting illusion for genuine knowing, or ignoring a real warning the body is giving. It can also point to spiritual bypass, using the language of the mysterious to avoid a plain truth. The reversed card asks you to distinguish between the intuition that frees and the illusion that merely soothes.

Keywordsconfusion · fantasy · self-deception · spiritual bypass · illusion

The astrology

Pisces is mutable water, the sign of the dreamer and the mystic, the dissolving of boundaries between self and the ocean of the unconscious. Pisces feels everything and is most at home in the realms beneath ordinary perception. The Deep carries Pisces because both dwell in the watery, dreamlike, intuitive territory where logic gives way to feeling. Pisces reminds us that there is real wisdom in the depths, and also the risk of losing ourselves there, so discernment is needed even in intuition.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs intuition, inner vision, and perception beyond the physical senses. In The Deep, the Third Eye is the faculty that perceives in the dark, that reads symbol and dream. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is where the body\'s deep intelligence becomes available, often in images and felt senses rather than words. When this centre is clear, you trust your perceptions in the dark. When it is clouded, you mistake fear and fantasy for genuine sight.

Somatic prompt

In a quiet, dim space, close your eyes and let your breathing slow. Rather than reaching for clarity, rest in not-knowing. Bring to mind a situation that feels murky, and instead of analysing it, ask the deeper part of you: what do I sense here, beneath the surface? Wait, and notice whatever arises, an image, a feeling, a sensation. The Deep teaches you to receive rather than grasp. Do not interpret too quickly. Let the knowing surface in its own form.

The Major Arcana

XIX · The Light

The Sun

Joy and Aliveness

YESSunSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"What the shadow work was clearing room for"

The deeper meaning

The Light is the card of joy, vitality, and the radiant self with nothing left to hide. The traditional Sun shows a child riding freely under a blazing sun, everything illuminated and alive. In the Cocoon Method, The Light is what becomes possible after the descent and the shadow work, the return to uncomplicated aliveness, the body in full sunlight, no longer hiding or shrinking. It is innocent presence regained, the earned innocence on the other side of pain. This is the joy that the difficult work was clearing room for all along.

Upright

When The Light appears upright, joy and vitality are available to you, and you are invited to step fully into them. This is a card of aliveness, clarity, warmth, and being seen exactly as you are with nothing to hide. After the harder cards of the journey, The Light is the reward, the warmth on the skin, the unguarded presence. The card asks you to let yourself shine without dimming, to receive the good that is here, and to remember that joy is your natural state returning.

Keywordsjoy · vitality · aliveness · clarity · innocent presence

Reversed

Reversed, The Light shows joy dimmed or hidden, light dimmed to keep others comfortable. You may be shrinking from your own radiance out of self-doubt or fear of being too much. Or there is a false brightness, a performed okayness masking something unresolved. The reversed card does not ask you to force cheerfulness. It asks you to notice where you are hiding your light, and to let yourself feel what is underneath the performance. The real sun is still there.

Keywordsjoy dampened · self-doubt · false brightness · pretending

The astrology

The Sun is the centre of our solar system and the source of all light and life. Astrologically it governs the core self, vitality, identity, and the radiant essence of who we are. The Sun does not hide or apologise, it simply shines. The Light carries the Sun directly because this card is pure solar energy, the unguarded radiance of the true self. The Sun reminds us that our nature is to give light, and that dimming ourselves serves no one.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs vitality, confidence, and the radiant sense of self, its element fire, its image the inner sun. In The Light, the Solar Plexus is fully illuminated, shining without obstruction. In the Cocoon Method, this is where personal aliveness radiates outward. When the Solar Plexus is bright and open, you feel vital, confident, and unashamed of your own presence. When it dims, so does your sense of aliveness.

Somatic prompt

Find a patch of sunlight, or imagine warm light on your skin. Stand or sit and let your chest and belly open, your shoulders soften back, your face turn slightly upward. Breathe into your solar plexus and imagine a small sun glowing there. Let yourself smile, even slightly, and notice any impulse to shrink. The Light invites you to stay expanded and take up the warmth fully. Silently say: I am allowed to shine.

The Major Arcana

XX · The Call

Judgement

Awakening and Answering

YESPlutoHeart (Anahata)

"You already know what this is. Rise"

The deeper meaning

The Call is the card of awakening and the summons to rise into who you truly are. The traditional Judgement card shows figures rising at the sound of a trumpet, answering a call that reaches them at the level of the soul. In the Cocoon Method, The Call is the moment something in you is summoned to awaken, to answer, to rise into a truer version of yourself. It is not external judgement, it is the soul recognising itself and responding. You already know what this is. The only question is whether you will answer it or postpone your own becoming.

Upright

When The Call appears upright, you are being summoned to awaken, to rise, to answer something you have known about for a while. This is a card of resurrection and renewal, the soul recognising its purpose and responding. A call is reaching you, perhaps a vocation, a truth about who you are, a way of living you can no longer ignore. The time has come to rise. You do not need to manufacture the call, it is already sounding. You only need the courage to answer it.

Keywordsawakening · resurrection · the soul recognising itself · purpose

Reversed

Reversed, The Call shows the summons heard and the door not yet opened. You hear it, you know what it is, and you keep postponing, blocking your own awakening with self-doubt or the comfort of staying small. The reversed card asks you to stop refusing the call you already recognise. The longer you ignore it, the louder it becomes. Your becoming is waiting for your yes.

Keywordsthe call refused · ignoring the summons · postponing the soul · fear

The astrology

Pluto is the planet of death, rebirth, and profound transformation, the force that destroys what is false so something truer can rise from the depths. Pluto governs the deepest level of regeneration. The Call carries Pluto because awakening at this level is a death and resurrection, the old self laid down so the true self can rise. Pluto reminds us that the most important calls ask everything of us, and that answering them transforms us beyond recognition.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs the deepest recognitions of who we are and what we are here for. In The Call, the Heart is where the summons is heard and answered, because the call to rise is felt as a deep resonance in the chest, a recognition rather than a calculation. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart knows the call long before the mind agrees to it. When the Heart is open, you can hear the summons clearly and find the courage to rise.

Somatic prompt

Sit quietly with a hand on your heart. Bring to mind the call you have been hearing, the thing you already know you are being summoned toward. Breathe into your heart and simply acknowledge it: yes, I hear this. Notice what happens in your body when you stop pretending not to know. The Call teaches that the summons lives in the chest, not the head. Feel its pull, and let your body begin, in some small way today, to rise toward it.

The Major Arcana

XXI · The Whole

The World

Completion and Wholeness

YESSaturnCrown (Sahasrara)

"The work is done. You are home in yourself"

The deeper meaning

The Whole is the card of completion and integration, the closing of the great circle. The traditional World shows a figure dancing within a wreath, the journey of the entire Major Arcana fulfilled. In the Cocoon Method, The Whole is the experience of coming home to yourself, of integrating everything the journey has taught, of standing complete, not perfect, but whole. It is the dance of someone who has travelled through all the cards and arrived back at themselves, more themselves than ever. The work is done. You are home in yourself.

Upright

When The Whole appears upright, something is reaching genuine completion, and you are invited to recognise and celebrate it. A journey is fulfilled, a cycle complete, an integration achieved. This is a card of wholeness and arrival, the felt sense of coming home to yourself after a long passage. The card asks you to let yourself land, to honour what you have travelled through and who you have become, and to feel the quiet fullness of completion before the next circle begins.

Keywordscompletion · wholeness · integration · belonging · arrival

Reversed

Reversed, The Whole shows completion just out of reach, the arrival refused because the journey felt safer. The final step is being avoided, the loose ends left untied. You may be seeking closure outside yourself when it can only be found within, or you may fear completion itself, because arriving means something new must begin. The reversed card asks you to take the last step, to let yourself fully arrive, and to stop treating the doorway home as a place to linger rather than enter.

Keywordsincomplete · fear of completion · staying in the journey · the unfinished pattern

The astrology

Saturn is the planet of structure, time, maturation, and the fulfilment that comes from seeing things through to completion. Saturn governs the long arc, the discipline of finishing, the mastery earned over time. The Whole carries Saturn because completion is Saturn\'s gift, the reward at the end of the committed journey. Saturn reminds us that wholeness is not handed to us, it is built and earned through the full passage of time and experience.

The chakra

The Crown chakra (Sahasrara) governs unity, integration, and the sense of being whole and connected to all that is. In The Whole, the Crown is fully open, the individual self integrated and at home within the larger whole. In the Cocoon Method, the Crown is where all the work of the journey comes together, where the many parts become one and completion is experienced as wholeness rather than ending. When the Crown is open at this stage, arrival feels like coming home to a self that was always there.

Somatic prompt

Stand with your feet grounded and your body relaxed. Slowly turn in a gentle circle, or imagine doing so, feeling yourself at the centre of your own life, surrounded by everything you have travelled through. Breathe fully from your feet to the crown of your head. Silently say: the circle is complete, and I am home in myself. The Whole invites you to feel the quiet fullness of arrival, simply standing whole. Let yourself land fully before the next step begins.* • • • **THE SUIT OF FIRE** *In place of the traditional suit of Wands* The element of breath, passion, creative life force, will, the spark.

The Suit of Fire

Ace of Fire

Ace of Wands · The First Breath

Inspiration and the Spark

YESElement of FireSacral (Svadhisthana)

"Something in you just woke up"

The deeper meaning

The Ace of Fire is the first spark, the match struck in the dark, the moment inspiration arrives before you have any idea what to do with it. In traditional tarot the Ace of Wands is a hand emerging from a cloud, offering a living branch, pure creative potential before it has taken any shape. In the Cocoon Method this is The First Breath, the instant something in you wakes up and the body fills with a heat it did not have a moment ago. It is desire returning, the urge to make, to move, to begin. The Ace asks nothing of you yet except that you notice the spark and not smother it.

Upright

When the Ace of Fire appears upright, a new fire has been lit. Inspiration is arriving, an idea, an attraction, a sudden surge of creative life force. The body is igniting. This is the very beginning of something true, the seed of passion before it becomes a plan. The card invites you to honour the spark by giving it air, taking one small action that lets the new fire breathe rather than analysing it until it goes cold.

Keywordsnew fire · the spark · inspiration · ignition · pure potential

Reversed

Reversed, the Ace of Fire is the spark held in a hand afraid of fire. The inspiration is there but it has nowhere to go, the breath held too long, the match never struck. You may be afraid of your own creative force, of how much it might ask of you, of the mess of beginning. The reversed card asks you to notice what you are suppressing, and to let even a little of the fire move before it turns to restlessness or goes out entirely.

Keywordsenergy with nowhere to go · breath held · fear of your own fire

The astrology

The Ace of Fire carries the pure element of Fire itself, not a single decan but the essence of the suit, the raw spark before it takes form. Fire is the principle of ignition, passion, and creative will. As an Ace it is uncontained and full of potential, the elemental energy of inspiration in its first and purest form, before any sign or planet has shaped it.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs creativity, desire, and the generative life force, the place where new things are conceived. In the Ace of Fire, the Sacral is where the spark catches, where inspiration is felt as heat and aliveness low in the body. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is the seat of the creative impulse before it becomes action. When it is open, the spark moves freely. When it is blocked, the fire has nowhere to go.

Somatic prompt

Place a hand low on your belly, below the navel. Breathe into it and notice any flicker of excitement, desire, or aliveness, however small. Do not analyse it. Just let it be felt as warmth. Ask the spark: what do you want to begin? The Ace of Fire invites you to take one small action today that gives the new fire air, a sentence written, a call made, a first step toward the thing that just woke up in you.

Two of Fire

Two of Wands · The Vision

Vision and the Long View

YESMars in AriesSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"The horizon is yours"

The deeper meaning

The Two of Fire is the vision and the long view, the moment you stand at the edge of your own potential holding the whole horizon in your gaze. In traditional tarot the Two of Wands shows a figure on a height holding a globe, master of what they have built yet looking out toward what is not yet theirs. In the Cocoon Method, The Vision is the card of seeing where you are going, holding both the map and the courage at once. The spark of the Ace has become a direction. Now there is a choice between the comfortable known and the larger life calling from the horizon.

Upright

When the Two of Fire appears upright, you can see exactly where you are going. The horizon is yours. This is a card of vision and planning, of standing at the edge of your own expansion with a clear sense of what is possible. The card affirms that the long view is trustworthy and that you have the power to step toward it. Hold the map, and let the courage in your body match the size of what you see.

Keywordsvision · planning · the long view · expansion · holding the map

Reversed

Reversed, the Two of Fire is the map folded and the road untaken. You have the vision but you are not trusting it, planning endlessly without moving, staying small because the view feels overwhelming. The reversed card asks you to notice where fear of the horizon has frozen you in place. The vision was not given to you to admire from a safe distance. It was given to be walked toward.

Keywordsplanning without moving · the vision held but not trusted · staying small

The astrology

The Two of Fire is Mars in Aries, the most purely fiery decan in the entire deck, the spark of outward will at its most direct. Mars is the planet of action and desire, and Aries is its home sign, cardinal fire, the initiator. Together they form the pure impulse to move, to claim, to begin the expansion. This is will in its first decisive surge, the energy that turns vision into the first bold step.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs will, agency, and the power to set a direction and pursue it. In the Two of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where vision becomes will, where seeing the horizon turns into the felt readiness to move toward it. In the Cocoon Method, this is the fire in the core that fuels expansion. When it is strong, the long view feels exciting rather than overwhelming.

Somatic prompt

Stand and look out, even at a wall, and let your gaze go soft and far, as if to a horizon. Breathe into your solar plexus and bring to mind the larger life that is calling you. Notice whether your body leans toward it or pulls back. Place a hand above your navel and feel for the readiness to move. The Two of Fire invites you to name one step that walks you toward the horizon, and to take it before the map gets folded away.

The Suit of Fire

Three of Fire

Three of Wands · The Ships Have Sailed

Expansion and Faith

YESSun in AriesSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"What you set in motion is moving"

The deeper meaning

The Three of Fire is expansion and faith, the moment after you have launched, when the work is done and now you must wait and trust. In traditional tarot the Three of Wands shows a figure on a cliff watching ships sail out toward the horizon, their efforts already in motion across the water. In the Cocoon Method, The Ships Have Sailed is the card of what you set in motion moving through the world beyond your control. The doing is finished for now. What remains is the harder work of faith, of trusting the launch while the harvest is still on its way back to you.

Upright

When the Three of Fire appears upright, what you set in motion is moving. Your earlier efforts are travelling out into the world, gathering momentum, beginning to return. This is a card of expansion and of faith in the launch. The card asks you to trust what you began and to resist the urge to call the ships back early. Stand on the cliff, watch the horizon, and let what is in motion complete its journey.

Keywordsexpansion · momentum · trust · the harvest returning · faith in the launch

Reversed

Reversed, the Three of Fire is the ships called back before they could arrive. Delays are met with despair, impatience erodes the faith, and you give up just before the return. The reversed card asks you to notice where your faith is running out too soon. Expansion takes time. What you launched is still on its way. Do not mistake the waiting for failure.

Keywordsdelays met with despair · giving up · impatience · faith run out

The astrology

The Three of Fire is Sun in Aries, the visionary force of the leader and pioneer. The Sun brings radiance, confidence, and the steady light of selfhood to the initiating fire of Aries. This is the energy of someone who has acted boldly and now stands in the confidence of what they set in motion, the warmth of self-trust that allows them to wait with faith rather than anxiety.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs confidence and the steady inner fire of self-trust. In the Three of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where faith in your own launch lives, the quiet confidence that what you began was right even though the results are not yet visible. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that holds steady through the waiting. When it is strong, you can trust the ships to return.

Somatic prompt

Stand tall and imagine the horizon before you, with everything you have set in motion travelling out across it. Breathe into your solar plexus and feel the warmth of your own confidence. Silently say: what I began is moving, and I can trust the return. Notice any urge to grab the ships back, and let it soften. The Three of Fire invites you to practise the steady faith of standing on the cliff and letting what is in motion arrive in its own time.

Four of Fire

Four of Wands · The Celebration

Homecoming and Earned Joy

YESVenus in AriesHeart (Anahata)

"Rest here. This was earned"

The deeper meaning

The Four of Fire is homecoming and earned joy, the celebration that marks a threshold reached. In traditional tarot the Four of Wands shows a flower-decked gateway, figures celebrating before a place of welcome, the harvest of effort acknowledged and shared. In the Cocoon Method, The Celebration is the card that says: rest here, this was earned. It is the body allowed to receive what it worked for, the milestone honoured rather than rushed past on the way to the next thing. Joy here is not frivolous. It is the rightful pause that lets the nervous system register that something good has actually happened.

Upright

When the Four of Fire appears upright, there is something to celebrate, and you are invited to let yourself fully arrive in it. A threshold has been reached, a harvest gathered, a homecoming earned. This is a card of community, joy shared, and the body receiving its reward. The card asks you to stop, to mark the moment, to let the good news land in your body rather than immediately reaching for what comes next. Rest here. This was earned.

Keywordscelebration · homecoming · community · harvest · joy shared

Reversed

Reversed, the Four of Fire is the celebration that never let itself land. Rest is refused, joy is postponed, the achievement goes unacknowledged because you are already racing toward the next goal. The reversed card asks you to notice where you will not let yourself receive what you have earned. The party you never let yourself have does not make you more deserving of the next one. Let the milestone be felt.

Keywordsrest refused · joy postponed · achievement unacknowledged

The astrology

The Four of Fire is Venus in Aries, the warmth of pleasure and connection meeting the initiating fire. Venus brings love, beauty, and the capacity to enjoy and receive, softening the raw drive of Aries into celebration and shared joy. This is the decan where effort becomes festivity, where the fire that initiates also gathers people together to mark what has been built.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs joy, connection, and the capacity to receive good things. In the Four of Fire, the Heart is where celebration lands, where the body opens to the warmth of community and earned joy. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is what allows you to take the good in rather than deflecting it. When the Heart is open, achievement can be felt and shared. When it is closed, even success passes through without nourishing you.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something you have recently accomplished or come through, however small. Place both hands over your heart. Breathe and let yourself actually feel the goodness of it, not the next task, just this. Silently say: this was earned, and I am allowed to rest here. Notice any urge to brush it off or move on. The Four of Fire invites you to stay with the warmth long enough for your body to register that something good has happened.

The Suit of Fire

Five of Fire

Five of Wands · The Friction

Conflict and Creative Tension

MAYBESaturn in LeoSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Not every fire burns. Some forge"

The deeper meaning

The Five of Fire is conflict and creative tension, the friction that either burns or forges. In traditional tarot the Five of Wands shows several figures with raised staves in what looks like a scuffle, energy clashing without clear direction. In the Cocoon Method, The Friction is the card of competing forces, inner or outer, and the recognition that not every fire burns things down. Some fires forge. The tension here can be wasteful chaos, or it can be the productive heat that tempers and clarifies, depending on whether the conflict is met with awareness or simply endured.

Upright

When the Five of Fire appears upright, you are in a field of friction, competition, or clashing energies. This is uncomfortable, but the card reframes it: not every fire burns, some forge. The tension you are in may be the very thing that clarifies what you actually want and tests what is real. The card asks you to stay with the friction consciously, to let it sharpen rather than scatter you, and to remember that some heat is creative rather than destructive.

Keywordsconflict · creative tension · friction · testing · multiple forces

Reversed

Reversed, the Five of Fire is friction without forge, conflict for its own sake. The energy scatters, the competition diminishes everyone involved, the clash produces only exhaustion and no clarity. The reversed card asks you to step back from a conflict that is no longer generative, to stop feeding heat that is not forging anything. Not all friction is worth staying in.

Keywordsconflict for its own sake · scattered energy · diminishing competition

The astrology

The Five of Fire is Saturn in Leo, the heavy hand of restriction pressing on the proud, expressive fire of Leo. Saturn brings limitation, testing, and the discipline of friction, while Leo wants to shine and create. The tension between them is the decan\'s signature, the clash that frustrates the ego but, met rightly, tempers the creative force into something more durable and real.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs personal power and the way we meet challenge and competition. In the Five of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where friction is felt, the heat of conflict in the core. In the Cocoon Method, this is where you learn whether tension scatters your power or forges it. When the Solar Plexus is steady, friction becomes clarifying. When it is reactive, conflict simply burns.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a conflict or tension you are in. Place a hand above your navel and breathe into the heat there. Instead of trying to make the friction disappear, ask: what is this tension trying to clarify? Is this a fire that forges, or one that only burns? Notice the answer in your body. The Five of Fire invites you to stay consciously with productive friction, and to step back from the kind that only scatters your fire.

The Suit of Fire

Six of Fire

Six of Wands · The Return

Victory and Earned Confidence

YESJupiter in LeoSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"The one who came back is not the one who left"

The deeper meaning

The Six of Fire is victory and earned confidence, the return of the one who went out and came back changed. In traditional tarot the Six of Wands shows a figure riding home in triumph, crowned and celebrated. In the Cocoon Method, The Return carries a deeper note: the one who came back is not the one who left. Victory here is not only the external win but the inner transformation that the journey required. The card honours genuine, earned confidence, while quietly warning against a self-worth that depends entirely on the applause of others.

Upright

When the Six of Fire appears upright, you are returning in triumph from something you went through. There is recognition, success, earned confidence. The card celebrates this, and asks you to notice that the real victory is who you became on the way. You are not the same person who set out. Let the recognition land, and let your confidence be rooted in what you actually lived rather than only in how it looks from outside.

Keywordsvictory · recognition · earned confidence · public return · the journey survived

Reversed

Reversed, the Six of Fire is the crown shaped from the eyes of others. The victory feels hollow, the confidence depends entirely on applause, and without the recognition you are not sure who you are. The reversed card asks you to find the source of your worth inside rather than in the crowd. Validation seeking turns every success into a fix that wears off. The Return invites a confidence that does not need an audience.

Keywordshollow victory · validation seeking · confidence dependent on applause

The astrology

The Six of Fire is Jupiter in Leo, the expansive, fortunate planet amplifying the radiant fire of Leo. Jupiter brings growth, success, and recognition, and in Leo this becomes the energy of public triumph and earned acclaim. This is the decan of the victor\'s return, the fortunate culmination where effort meets reward and the self is seen and celebrated.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs confidence and self-worth. In the Six of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where earned confidence settles, the felt sense of standing in your own success. In the Cocoon Method, this is where you learn whether your confidence is rooted in yourself or dependent on others\' eyes. When the Solar Plexus is strong, recognition is enjoyed but not needed. When it is weak, applause becomes a substitute for self-worth.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something you came through that changed you. Stand tall, place a hand above your navel, and let yourself feel the confidence that is genuinely yours, the kind that would remain even if no one were watching. Silently say: the one who came back is not the one who left. Notice any place where your confidence reaches for outside approval. The Six of Fire invites you to root your worth in what you lived, not in the applause.

The Suit of Fire

Seven of Fire

Seven of Wands · The Stand

Courage and Holding Ground

YESMars in LeoSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Ground held when the wind comes"

The deeper meaning

The Seven of Fire is courage and holding ground, the stand you take when the pressure comes. In traditional tarot the Seven of Wands shows a figure on higher ground defending their position against challengers below. In the Cocoon Method, The Stand is the card of conviction, of not collapsing when the wind comes. It is the courage to defend what matters to you, to hold your position even when you are outnumbered or doubted. The teaching is about staying rooted in your own ground rather than being knocked off it by every challenge.

Upright

When the Seven of Fire appears upright, you are being asked to hold your ground. There is pressure, challenge, or opposition, and the card affirms that your position is worth defending. This is a card of courage and conviction, of standing for what matters even when it would be easier to back down. The card asks you to root into your own ground, to not collapse under the wind, and to trust that holding firm here is the right response.

Keywordscourage · conviction · defending what matters · not collapsing · standing

Reversed

Reversed, the Seven of Fire is still fighting a battle that ended. The stand has become defensiveness, aggression as protection, exhaustion from a fight no longer worth having. The reversed card asks you to notice where you are bracing against threats that are no longer there, or defending a position out of fear rather than conviction. Sometimes the courageous act is to lower your guard and rest.

Keywordsaggression as protection · fear-based stand · exhaustion from fighting

The astrology

The Seven of Fire is Mars in Leo, the warrior planet energising the proud, self-expressive fire of Leo. Mars brings the drive to fight and defend, and in Leo this becomes the courage to stand for oneself and one\'s convictions. This is the decan of the brave defence, the fire that holds its ground and refuses to be diminished by opposition.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs courage, will, and the power to hold a position. In the Seven of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where conviction lives, the steady fire that lets you stand firm under pressure. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that either holds you upright or collapses under challenge. When it is strong, you can defend what matters without being thrown. When it is depleted, every challenge feels like a threat.

Somatic prompt

Stand with your feet wide and firmly planted. Press down through your legs and feel your own ground beneath you. Breathe into your solar plexus and bring to mind something you need to stand for. Feel the difference between bracing rigidly and rooting steadily. Silently say: I can hold this ground without collapsing. The Seven of Fire invites you to find the courage that comes from being rooted rather than from fighting harder.

The Suit of Fire

Eight of Fire

Eight of Wands · The Arrow

Momentum and Swift Movement

YESMercury in SagittariusThroat (Vishuddha)

"Everything is moving. Let it"

The deeper meaning

The Eight of Fire is momentum and swift movement, the moment everything aligns and accelerates. In traditional tarot the Eight of Wands shows eight staves flying through the air, all moving in the same direction, fast and unobstructed. In the Cocoon Method, The Arrow is the card of swift, aligned motion, when the obstacles clear and things move quickly toward their target. After the friction and the stand, this is the release, the energy finally flying. The teaching is to let the momentum carry you, to act while the window is open rather than hesitating once everything has aligned.

Upright

When the Eight of Fire appears upright, everything is moving, and the card\'s counsel is simple: let it. There is acceleration, alignment, swift movement toward what you want. Communication flows, obstacles clear, things happen quickly. The card asks you to trust the momentum and act decisively while the window is open. This is not the time for hesitation. The arrow has been loosed and the path is clear.

Keywordsmomentum · swift movement · alignment · acceleration · clarity of direction

Reversed

Reversed, the Eight of Fire is speed without direction. The energy is moving but scattered, the arrow flies without aim, communication goes missing, and the rush carries you somewhere you did not intend to go. The reversed card asks you to pause long enough to aim before you move, to make sure the swift energy has a clear target rather than burning itself out in scattered motion.

Keywordsscattered energy · wrong direction · communication missing · arrow without aim

The astrology

The Eight of Fire is Mercury in Sagittarius, the swift planet of communication and movement in the far-reaching, fiery sign of the archer. Mercury brings speed and messages, Sagittarius brings direction and the long-distance aim. Together they are the arrow in flight, energy moving fast toward a distant target, the decan of acceleration and aligned momentum.

The chakra

The Eight of Fire moves to the Throat chakra (Vishuddha), the centre of communication and the clear expression that gives momentum its direction. Here the fire becomes swift and articulate, energy moving through the channel of clear communication. In the Cocoon Method, the Throat is where aligned action finds its voice and aim. When it is open, momentum carries clean messages toward their target.

Somatic prompt

Stand and feel the readiness to move in your body. Take a few quick, energising breaths. Bring to mind something that is gathering momentum in your life. Place a hand on your throat and ask: is this energy aimed clearly? Feel for the direction. The Eight of Fire invites you to align before you accelerate, then to let yourself move swiftly toward the target while the path is open, trusting the momentum rather than braking out of habit.

The Suit of Fire

Nine of Fire

Nine of Wands · The Last Gate

Resilience and the Final Push

YESMoon in SagittariusSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Almost. This is not where it ends"

The deeper meaning

The Nine of Fire is resilience and the final push, the moment near the end when you are tired but not finished. In traditional tarot the Nine of Wands shows a wounded figure standing guard, bandaged but still upright, one more challenge to face. In the Cocoon Method, The Last Gate is the card of the almost, the recognition that this exhaustion is not where it ends. You have come far, you have been worn down, and there is one more gate to pass through. The teaching is about the resilience that finds one more reserve of strength, and about not mistaking the final gate for an impassable wall.

Upright

When the Nine of Fire appears upright, you are close, closer than the exhaustion makes it feel. This is a card of resilience and the final push, of finding courage at the very edge of your strength. You have been tested and you are tired, but this is not where it ends. The card asks you to gather what remains and pass through the last gate. The finish is nearer than the fatigue suggests.

Keywordsresilience · the final push · persistence · courage at the edge

Reversed

Reversed, the Nine of Fire is the last gate mistaken for a wall. Resilience is exhausted, you are giving up in the final stretch, the old wound stops you just short of the finish. The reversed card asks you to look again at what you have decided is impossible. Sometimes the wall is a gate. And sometimes the wise act is to rest and tend the wound before the final push, rather than collapsing or forcing through on empty.

Keywordsgiving up in the final stretch · resilience exhausted · the wound that stops you

The astrology

The Nine of Fire is Moon in Sagittarius, the emotional, instinctual Moon in the resilient, far-aiming fire of the archer. The Moon brings the inner reserves, the gut-level endurance, while Sagittarius keeps the eye on the distant goal. This is the decan of weary persistence, the fire kept burning through fatigue by the instinct that the destination is still worth reaching.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs endurance and the will to persist. In the Nine of Fire, the Solar Plexus is where the last reserve of resilience is found, the fire that has burned low but not out. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that determines whether you push through the final gate or collapse before it. When it is tended, even depleted strength can find one more step.

Somatic prompt

Stand even if you are tired. Place a hand above your navel and breathe slowly into the warmth there, however dim it feels. Bring to mind the thing you are almost through. Silently say: this is not where it ends, and the wall may be a gate. Feel for the small reserve that remains. The Nine of Fire invites you to honour the fatigue and then take one more grounded step, or to rest and tend the wound first if that is what the body truly needs.

The Suit of Fire

Ten of Fire

Ten of Wands · The Burden

Overwhelm and the Weight

NOSaturn in SagittariusRoot (Muladhara)

"Not all of this was yours to carry"

The deeper meaning

The Ten of Fire is overwhelm and the weight, the card of carrying too much for too long. In traditional tarot the Ten of Wands shows a figure bent under a bundle of ten staves, the burden so large it obscures the path ahead. In the Cocoon Method, The Burden is the card that says clearly: not all of this was yours to carry. The fire that began as inspiration in the Ace has, by the Ten, become a weight that bends the body. The teaching is the permission to set some of it down, to question what you took on, and to ask for help.

Upright

When the Ten of Fire appears upright, you are carrying too much. The weight is real, the body is bent under it, the load obscures the way forward. The card\'s deepest message is that not all of this was yours to carry. It asks you to look honestly at what you have taken on, to notice where you said yes past your limit, and to begin setting down what was never yours. The path becomes visible again once the load is lightened.

Keywordsoverwhelm · the weight · saying yes past your limit · the need to put down

Reversed

Reversed, the Ten of Fire is the weight worn so long it became a name. The burden has hardened into identity, martyrdom, the sense that carrying everything is simply who you are. There is collapse on the horizon, and a refusal to ask for help. The reversed card asks you, gently, to question whether you have confused your worth with your overload. You are not the weight you carry. Help is allowed.

Keywordsmartyrdom · burden as identity · collapse · refusing help

The astrology

The Ten of Fire is Saturn in Sagittarius, the planet of weight and responsibility pressing on the expansive fire of the archer. Saturn brings burden, duty, and the heaviness of obligation, while Sagittarius longs for freedom and the open horizon. The tension is the decan\'s signature, the fire of expansion weighed down by responsibility carried too far, the burden that blocks the very freedom the fire was reaching for.

The chakra

The Ten of Fire moves to the Root chakra (Muladhara), the centre of survival and the body\'s most basic sense of what it can bear. Here the fire suit ends in heaviness, the weight felt at the foundation of the body. In the Cocoon Method, the Root is where overwhelm registers as a threat to survival, the sense that you cannot put the load down because everything depends on you. When the Root finds safety, the body discovers it can set some of the weight down and still be held.

Somatic prompt

Stand and imagine the weight you carry as an actual load on your shoulders and back. Breathe down into your feet and the base of your spine. Now, slowly, imagine setting one piece of the load on the ground, something that was never yours to carry. Feel the body lighten, even slightly. Silently say: not all of this was mine. The Ten of Fire invites you to name one burden you can put down or ask help with, and to let your body feel what relief would be like.

Beginner\'s Fire and Curiosity

YESEarth of FireSacral (Svadhisthana)

"Let yourself be new at this"

The deeper meaning

The Page of Fire is beginner\'s fire and curiosity, the young, eager energy of someone newly alight with a passion. In traditional tarot the Page of Wands is a youthful figure gazing at a sprouting staff with wonder, full of enthusiasm and the willingness to explore. In the Cocoon Method, The Spark is the card of letting yourself be new at something, of approaching with curiosity rather than the pressure to already be good. It is the creative child, the part of you that catches fire at a new possibility and wants to chase it simply because it is alive.

Upright

When the Page of Fire appears upright, a new enthusiasm is alight in you. There is curiosity, beginner\'s fire, the urge to learn or explore something that feels alive. The card invites you to let yourself be a beginner, to follow the spark without needing to be expert, to approach the new thing with playful, open energy. This is permission to be new at something and to let the curiosity lead.

Keywordsenthusiasm · beginner\'s fire · curiosity · learning something alive

Reversed

Reversed, the Page of Fire is the spark that flares and finds nothing to feed it. There is enthusiasm without follow-through, recklessness, a creative child silenced or a message ignored. The reversed card asks whether you are starting fires you never tend, or whether the eager, curious part of you has been shut down. Either way, it points back to the need to honour the spark and give it something real to burn.

Keywordsno follow through · recklessness · creative child silenced · message ignored

The astrology

The Page of Fire carries the elemental signature Earth of Fire, the grounding, embodied aspect of the fiery suit. As the Page, this is fire in its youngest, most curious form, the spark beginning to take root in the practical world. It is the earthy patience that can let beginner\'s enthusiasm become real learning, the fire just starting to find ground.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs creativity, curiosity, and the playful generative impulse. In the Page of Fire, the Sacral is where beginner\'s fire lives, the delighted curiosity of being new at something. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is the seat of the creative child. When it is open, you can approach the new with play and wonder. When it is blocked, curiosity gets shut down before it can catch.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something you are curious about but feel too inexperienced to begin. Place a hand low on your belly and breathe into any flicker of excitement. Let yourself feel the permission to be a beginner, to be bad at it, to play. Silently say: I am allowed to be new at this. The Page of Fire invites you to follow the curiosity in some small way today, with the open, unpressured energy of a child discovering something alive.

Knight of Wands · The Charge

Action and Decisive Movement

YESFire of FireSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Move. The thinking is finished"

The deeper meaning

The Knight of Fire is action and decisive movement, the energy that leaps once the thinking is done. In traditional tarot the Knight of Wands charges forward on a rearing horse, all passion and forward motion. In the Cocoon Method, The Charge is the card of the body that moves, that acts on its passion without endless deliberation. It is momentum embodied, the moment when you stop planning and go. The teaching honours bold, passionate action while quietly noting the risk of leaving the heart, or the ground, behind in the rush.

Upright

When the Knight of Fire appears upright, it is time to move. The thinking is finished. This is a card of action, passion in motion, the body that leaps toward what it wants. The card affirms your momentum and urges you to act with boldness and commitment. Trust the energy that wants to charge forward, and let your passion move you rather than overthinking the next step.

Keywordsaction · passion in motion · the body that leaps · momentum

Reversed

Reversed, the Knight of Fire is the leap with the heart left behind. The action becomes impulsiveness, ungrounded charging, burning everything in the rush, overshooting the mark. The reversed card asks you to check whether your passion is connected to your heart and your ground, or whether it has become reactive momentum that leaves damage in its wake. Bold movement is powerful only when it carries the heart with it.

Keywordsimpulsiveness · ungrounded action · burning everything · overshooting

The astrology

The Knight of Fire carries the elemental signature Fire of Fire, the purest and most intense expression of the suit, fire doubled. As the Knight, this is the most active, driving form of fiery energy, passion in full motion. It is the decisive charge, the elemental will at its most concentrated and forward-moving.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs drive, will, and decisive action. In the Knight of Fire, the Solar Plexus blazes, the fire that propels the body into motion. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of decisive forward movement. When it is strong and connected to the heart, action is bold and clean. When it acts alone, it becomes impulsive and ungrounded.

Somatic prompt

Stand and feel the energy in your body that wants to move. Take a few strong breaths into your core. Bring to mind an action you have been deliberating. Place one hand on your solar plexus and one on your heart, connecting the drive to the heart. Silently say: I can move boldly and keep my heart with me. The Knight of Fire invites you to take decisive action toward what you want, grounded and heart-connected rather than merely reactive.

"The fire that warms without burning"

The deeper meaning

In traditional tarot the Queen of Wands sits confident and warm, a sunflower and a black cat beside her, radiant and self-possessed. In the Cocoon Method, The Flame Keeper is the card of mature creative power, the fire that warms without burning. She is magnetic because she is fully herself, passionate and wise at once. The teaching is about tending your own fire, leading with warmth and creative authority, and not giving all your heat away to others.

The creative power is turned inward or suppressed, the warmth is weaponised, burnout sets in from giving heat to everyone else while her own flame goes untended. The reversed card asks you to bring the fire back to yourself, to notice where you have abandoned your own creative needs while keeping others warm. The Flame Keeper must keep her own flame first.

Keywordsfire turned inward · creative power suppressed · burnout · warmth weaponised

The astrology

The Queen of Fire carries the elemental signature Water of Fire, the feeling, receptive aspect of the fiery suit. As the Queen, this blend creates magnetic, wise creative power, fire that has learned tenderness.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs creativity, sensuality, and magnetic life force. In the Queen of Fire, the Sacral is where creative mastery and magnetism live, the warm generative fire held with maturity. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is the seat of the self-possessed creative power that warms without burning. When it is open and tended, the Flame Keeper radiates. When it is depleted, she burns out keeping others warm.

Somatic prompt

Sit comfortably and place a hand low on your belly. Breathe into your own creative fire and imagine it as a warm, steady flame that is yours to keep. Silently say: I tend my own fire first. Notice where you have been giving your heat away. The Queen of Fire invites you to draw the warmth back to your own centre, to feel your magnetic, self-possessed power, and to let it radiate from fullness rather than depletion.

In traditional tarot the King of Wands sits with a flowering staff, a leader of vision and bold direction. In the Cocoon Method, The Torch is the card of leading with fire so that the path is lit for others. It is creative authority in full maturity, the one whose vision and warmth inspire and guide. The teaching is about using your fire to illuminate the way for others, and the warning is against holding the torch so high that it blinds rather than lights.

Upright

Keywordsvisionary leadership · bold vision · creative authority · inspiring others

Reversed

Reversed, the King of Fire is the torch held so high no one can see by it. Leadership has become dominance, vision imposed rather than offered, creative tyranny, the fire that demands worship rather than warming the room. The reversed card asks you to bring the torch back down to where it can actually light the path, to lead with service rather than ego, and to notice where your authority has tipped into control.

Keywordsdominance · creative tyranny · vision imposed · the fire that demands worship

The astrology

The King of Fire carries the elemental signature Air of Fire, the mental, communicative aspect of the fiery suit. This is fire guided by vision and clarity, passion shaped by ideas and direction. The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs authority, leadership, and the radiant fire of mature personal power. In the King of Fire, the Solar Plexus is the steady, generous fire of one who leads. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of grounded creative authority. When it is strong and in service, the King lights the way for others. When it inflates, the torch is held too high and becomes domination.

Somatic prompt

Stand tall and grounded. Breathe into your solar plexus and imagine your fire as a torch you hold steadily, at a height where it lights the ground for others. Bring to mind a place where you are called to lead. Silently say: I lead with fire, and the path is lit for others. "Something in you just opened"

The deeper meaning

The Ace of Water is the first feeling, the heart cracking open to receive. In traditional tarot the Ace of Cups is an overflowing chalice held by a hand from the clouds, grace pouring in faster than it can be contained. In the Cocoon Method, The First Feeling is the moment something in you opens, when the heart that was closed begins to receive again. It is new love, returning intuition, the body softening after a long guardedness. The Ace asks nothing except that you let the cup be filled, that you allow yourself to feel after a season of not feeling.

Upright

When the Ace of Water appears upright, something in you has opened. The heart is receiving, a new feeling is arriving, love or intuition or tenderness flowing in. The cup is filling. This is the pure beginning of emotional life, the softening that lets you feel again. The card invites you to receive it, to let yourself be moved, to allow the opening rather than bracing against it.

Reversed

Reversed, the Ace of Water is the cup turned over to keep the rain out. Emotions are suppressed, the heart closed against its own feeling, numbness chosen as protection. The reversed card asks you to notice where you have turned the cup over, refusing the very feeling that wants to nourish you. The water is still there, waiting. You can turn the cup back up when you are ready to be filled.

Keywordsemotions suppressed · numbness · the water held back

The astrology

The Ace of Water carries the pure element of Water itself, the essence of feeling and the inner world before it takes any specific form. Water is the principle of emotion, intuition, and flow. As an Ace it is uncontained and full of potential, the elemental energy of feeling in its first and purest state, the source from which all the emotional waters of the suit will pour.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs love, feeling, and the capacity to receive. In the Ace of Water, the Heart is where the opening happens, where the cup fills and feeling returns. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is the seat of emotional receptivity. When it is open, feeling and love flow in freely. When it is closed, the cup turns over and the water is kept out.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over the centre of your chest. Breathe into the space beneath them and imagine it as a cup, slowly filling. Notice any feeling that wants to arise, and instead of bracing, let it be received. Silently say: I am allowed to feel this. The Ace of Water invites you to keep the cup turned up, to let yourself be moved by whatever is opening, and to trust the softening rather than guarding against it.

The deeper meaning

The Two of Water is recognition and reciprocity, the meeting of two who truly see each other. In traditional tarot the Two of Cups shows two figures exchanging cups in a vow of mutual regard. In the Cocoon Method, The Meeting is the card of being met exactly where you are, of the soul recognition that happens when two people mirror each other honestly. It is sacred reciprocity, love or friendship or partnership built on genuine seeing rather than projection. The teaching is about the healing that happens when you are truly met, and the courage it takes to meet another in return.

Upright

Keywordsrecognition · soul meeting · partnership · mirror · sacred reciprocity

Reversed

Reversed, the Two of Water is the mirror that shows what was wished for, not what is. There is imbalance in the giving and receiving, connection refused, projection mistaken for love, walls where there should be openness. The reversed card asks you to look at whether you are seeing the other person truly, or only your fantasy of them, and whether you are letting yourself be genuinely met or hiding behind a wall.

Keywordsconnection refused · imbalance · projection · walls

The astrology

The Two of Water is Venus in Cancer, the planet of love in the tender, nurturing sign of the home and the heart. Venus brings affection and the desire to connect, Cancer brings emotional depth and the longing for belonging. The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs connection and the mutual exchange of love. In the Two of Water, the Heart is where the meeting happens, where two open hearts recognise each other. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is the seat of true reciprocity. When it is open in both people, the meeting heals. When one heart is walled, the mirror distorts and the meeting cannot land.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind someone you feel truly met by, or wish to be. Place both hands on your heart and breathe into the warmth there. Imagine being seen exactly as you are, and seeing the other in return. Silently say: I can be met, and I can meet. Notice any wall that wants to rise. The Two of Water invites you to soften it slightly, to practise the openness that lets a real meeting happen.

In the Cocoon Method, The Circle is the card of chosen family, of being held by your people. These are your people: the ones with whom you can simply be, without performance. The card invites you to lean into your community, to let yourself be held by those who love you without conditions, and to celebrate together. These are your people. Let yourself receive the belonging rather than holding yourself apart.

Keywordschosen family · belonging · sisterhood · joy shared

Reversed

Reversed, the Three of Water is loneliness inside the room. There is isolation even among others, belonging that depends on performance, gossip masquerading as intimacy, connection without depth. The reversed card asks you to look honestly at whether your circle truly holds you, or whether you are performing for it, and whether the loneliness you feel is a sign to seek deeper belonging rather than more company.

Keywordsisolation · gossip · belonging through performance · disconnection

The astrology

The Three of Water is Mercury in Cancer, the communicative planet in the nurturing, feeling sign of home and family. Mercury brings connection and exchange, Cancer brings emotional warmth and the bonds of belonging. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is the seat of belonging. When it is open and the belonging is real, the body relaxes into being held. When connection is only performed, the heart stays lonely even in the crowd.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind the people with whom you can simply be yourself. Place both hands on your heart and breathe into the feeling of being held by them. Let your shoulders soften, your body settle. Four of Water

Four of Cups · The Pause

Contemplation and Stillness

MAYBEMoon in CancerSacral (Svadhisthana)

"Sit with what is. The new arrives in its time"

The deeper meaning

The Four of Water is contemplation and stillness, the inward turn that the soul sometimes requires. In traditional tarot the Four of Cups shows a figure under a tree, arms crossed, contemplating three cups while a fourth is offered unseen from a cloud. In the Cocoon Method, The Pause is the card of necessary withdrawal, of sitting with what is rather than reaching for the new. Sit with what is, the new arrives in its time. The teaching distinguishes between healthy inward contemplation and the numbness that misses what is being offered, while honouring the genuine need to turn inward.

Upright

When the Four of Water appears upright, you are in a season of contemplation and stillness, an inward turn. This is not failure or apathy, it is a necessary pause, a withdrawal that lets you take stock of what is real. The card invites you to honour the stillness without forcing yourself back into activity. Sit with what is. The new thing being offered will become visible in its own time, when you are ready to receive it.

Keywordscontemplation · withdrawal · stillness · the inward turn

Reversed

Reversed, the Four of Water is numbness wearing the face of peace. The contemplation has curdled into apathy, the withdrawal into stagnation, the inward turn into self-absorption that refuses the new thing being offered. The reversed card asks you to notice whether your stillness is restful or merely numb, and whether there is an offering, a hand reaching from the cloud, that you have stopped being able to see.

Keywordsapathy · refusal · stagnation · self-absorption

The astrology

The Four of Water is Moon in Cancer, the Moon in its home sign, the most deeply inward and feeling decan of the suit. The Moon governs the inner tides and the emotional world, and in Cancer this turns fully inward, toward contemplation, retreat, and the processing of feeling in solitude. This is the decan of the necessary withdrawal, the soul turning in to digest what it has felt.

The chakra

The Four of Water moves to the Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana), the centre of feeling and the inner emotional flow. Here the water turns inward, the feeling life processed in stillness. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is where contemplation and emotional digestion happen. When it flows in healthy stillness, the pause restores. When it stagnates, the stillness becomes numbness.

Somatic prompt

Sit comfortably and let yourself be still, with no task to complete. Place a hand low on your belly and breathe slowly. Allow whatever you have been feeling to simply be present, without acting on it. Then gently ask: is there something being offered to me that I have not been able to see? Notice what arises. The Four of Water invites you to honour the inward pause, and to stay open to the offering that may be waiting just outside your downcast gaze.

Five of Water

Five of Cups · The Grief

Loss and Mourning

NOMars in ScorpioHeart (Anahata)

"The two cups standing are real too"

The deeper meaning

The Five of Water is loss and mourning, the grief that asks to be felt. In traditional tarot the Five of Cups shows a cloaked figure grieving over three spilled cups, not yet turning to see the two that still stand behind them. In the Cocoon Method, The Grief is the card of honouring loss, of letting the body weep for what is gone. Its essence holds both truths: the loss is real, and the two cups standing are real too. The teaching is that grief must be felt to move, and that even in loss, something remains, though it cannot be seen until the mourning has had its place.

Upright

When the Five of Water appears upright, there is grief to be felt. Something has been lost, and the body needs to mourn it. The card does not rush you past this. It asks you to let the grief be felt fully, to acknowledge what is gone. And gently, when you are ready, it reminds you that the two cups still standing are real too, that something remains even in the loss. But first, let it be mourned.

Keywordsgrief · loss · mourning · the body that needs to weep · acknowledging what is gone

Reversed

Reversed, the Five of Water is the grief unfelt becoming the grief that stays. There is denial, the wound left untended, a refusal to feel that keeps the loss frozen in place, or a victimhood that cannot move beyond the spilled cups. The reversed card asks you to let the grief move through you. What is not mourned does not disappear, it lingers. Letting yourself weep is what eventually lets you turn and see what still stands.

Keywordsdenial · the wound untended · victimhood · refusal to feel

The astrology

The Five of Water is Mars in Scorpio, the planet of intensity in the deep, transformative waters of Scorpio. Mars brings force and friction, Scorpio brings emotional depth and the encounter with loss and death. Together they form the decan of intense grief, the painful but transformative descent into mourning that, fully felt, becomes a passage rather than a permanent place.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs grief, love, and the feeling of loss. In the Five of Water, the Heart is where mourning lives, the ache of what is gone. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart must be allowed to grieve for the loss to move. When the Heart is permitted to mourn, grief flows through and eventually softens. When grief is denied, the Heart stays frozen around the loss.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over your heart. Bring to mind a loss you are carrying. Instead of bracing against the grief, breathe into it and let the body feel it, the heaviness, the ache, the tears if they come. Silently say: this loss is real, and I am allowed to grieve it. The Five of Water invites you to let the grief move rather than freezing it, trusting that when the mourning has had its place, you will be able to see what still stands.

Here the water becomes soft and young, the feeling life of the child within. In the Cocoon Method, the Sacral is where the inner child is met and tended. When it is open, simple joy and tenderness flow. When it is wounded, the child either hides in the past or goes unmet.

Somatic prompt

Silently say to the inner child: I see you, and you are safe with me now. Notice what softens in your body. In traditional tarot the Seven of Cups shows seven cups floating in the clouds, each holding a different vision, some treasure, some illusion. In the Cocoon Method, The Many Cups is the card of imagination, multiple paths, and the discernment required to tell the true from the merely seductive. Not all of them are yours, choose what is real. The teaching is about the clarity needed to choose among many options without being lost in fantasy or paralysed by abundance.

There is imagination here, multiple paths, a wealth of options, but not all of them are real or yours. The Seven of Water is Venus in Scorpio, the planet of desire in the deep, intense waters of Scorpio. Venus brings attraction and longing, Scorpio brings depth and the pull of the hidden. Together they form the decan of seductive possibility, the many alluring visions that must be examined with discernment, because desire in these depths can illuminate what is real or lure you into fantasy.

The chakra

The Seven of Water moves to the Third Eye chakra (Ajna), the centre of discernment and clear inner sight. Here the watery imagination meets the need for clarity, the faculty that can see through illusion to what is real. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is where discernment among the many cups happens. When it is clear, you choose what is true. When it is clouded, you are dazzled or lost in fantasy.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind the options or possibilities you are weighing. Close your eyes and breathe. One by one, hold each possibility in your mind and notice what happens in your body, which ones bring a true settling and which bring a hollow excitement or a subtle anxiety. The Nine of Water is Jupiter in Pisces, the expansive, benevolent planet in its watery home of Pisces. Jupiter brings abundance and fulfilment, Pisces brings emotional and spiritual depth. Together they form the decan of emotional plenty, the granting of the heart\'s wish, the abundant contentment of feeling that one has, at last, enough.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs contentment, satisfaction, and the capacity to receive and enjoy. In the Nine of Water, the Heart is where fulfilment lands, where the wish granted is actually felt. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart must be present for fulfilment to register. When it is open, contentment is felt fully. When it is absent, the cup is full but the satisfaction does not reach you.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something good that is present in your life right now, something you once longed for. Place both hands on your heart and breathe into the satisfaction of having it. Let yourself actually feel it rather than thinking about it. Silently say: what I longed for is here, and I am present to it. The Nine of Water invites you to land in the fulfilment, to let the good reach your heart rather than passing through unfelt.

In the Cocoon Method, The Belonging is the card of what home feels like, the love that flows across relationships and generations. This is what home feels like. Let yourself rest in it, and let the body know the safety of being held by lasting love.

Keywordsdeep belonging · family · emotional home · love across time · joy as a place

Reversed

Reversed, the Ten of Water is the picture beautiful and the love unfound. There may be a family wound beneath the harmonious image, home as performance, or the ache of longing for a belonging not yet built. The reversed card asks you to look beneath the picture-perfect surface to whether the love is actually felt, and to honour the longing for true home if what you have is only its image.

Keywordsfamily wound · home as performance · the longing for what is not yet built

The astrology

The Ten of Water is Mars in Pisces, the planet of drive in the boundless waters of Pisces. Mars brings the energy to build and protect, Pisces brings the longing for emotional and spiritual union. Let your whole body settle into it. Silently say: this is what home feels like, and I am held by lasting love. If it is a longing rather than a memory, let the longing be honoured. The intuition is ignored, the feeling dismissed, the gentle message silenced under the noise of the mind or the demands of others. The reversed card asks you to find your own ground again, to feel without merging, to hold your sensitivity with sovereignty. Empathy without a shore is not mastery, it is being swept away.

Keywordsemotional flooding · empathy without boundaries · psychic exhaustion

The astrology

The Queen of Water carries the elemental signature Water of Water, the purest and most concentrated expression of the feeling suit, water doubled. As the Queen, this is emotional depth at its fullest, intuition and empathy in their most profound form. The King of Water is emotional sovereignty and calm in the storm, the one who has befriended his own depths. In traditional tarot the King of Cups sits on a throne amid a turbulent sea, outwardly serene though the waters churn. In the Cocoon Method, The Still Water is the card of feeling as wisdom, of remaining calm and grounded while the emotional waters move. Calm in the storm, feeling as wisdom. The teaching is about emotional mastery that comes not from suppressing feeling but from being so deeply at home in it that the storms no longer destabilise you.

Upright

This is feeling as wisdom, the depth of one who has befriended his own emotional waters and can stay grounded while they move. The card affirms your capacity for diplomacy, calm in chaos, and mature emotional leadership. Lead with feeling, and let your steadiness be a refuge for others, not a wall against your own depths.

Keywordsemotional sovereignty · calm in chaos · diplomacy · feeling as wisdom

The serenity is actually suppression, emotions controlled to the point of distance, feeling used as manipulation, charm without depth. Real stillness comes from depth, not from ice.

Keywordsemotions controlled · feeling as manipulation · charm without depth

The astrology

The King of Water carries the elemental signature Air of Water, the mental, communicative aspect of the feeling suit. Clarity and the Breakthrough

YESElement of AirThird Eye (Ajna)

"Something just became clear"

The deeper meaning

The Ace of Air is the first truth, the moment clarity cuts through the fog and something you could not see suddenly stands plain. In traditional tarot the Ace of Swords is a hand emerging from a cloud holding an upright blade, often crowned, the pure power of the mind in its first decisive form. In the Cocoon Method this is The First Truth, the instant a thought arrives clean and unclouded, the breath of clarity that lets you finally name what is real. It is the mind awakening to itself, the relief and the responsibility of seeing. The Ace asks only that you let the truth in, even when it is sharper than you wished.

Upright

When the Ace of Air appears upright, something has just become clear. A breakthrough is arriving, a truth cutting cleanly through confusion, a new understanding that changes how you see. This is the mind at its most lucid, thought stripped of distortion. The card invites you to honour the clarity by speaking it, writing it, or simply letting yourself fully know what you now know, rather than retreating back into the comfortable fog.

Keywordsclarity · breakthrough · truth arriving · the mind awakening · clean thought

Reversed

Reversed, the Ace of Air is the blade turned inward. The clarity is there but it has curdled into overthinking, the sharp mind used against yourself, truth refused because it asks too much. Mental fog rolls back in. The reversed card asks you to notice where you are wielding your own intelligence as a weapon against your peace, and to let the blade rest. Not every thought needs to be sharpened. Some need only to be set down.

Keywordsconfusion · truth refused · mental fog · overthinking

The astrology

The Ace of Air carries the pure element of Air itself, not a single decan but the essence of the suit, the raw breath of mind before it takes form. Air is the principle of thought, perception, and clarity. As an Ace it is uncontained and full of potential, the elemental energy of truth in its first and purest form, the clean idea before any sign or planet has shaped it.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs perception, insight, and the clear seeing that cuts through illusion. In the Ace of Air, the Third Eye is where the breakthrough lands, where the mind opens and truth becomes visible. In the Cocoon Method, the Third Eye is the seat of clarity that arrives faster than language. When it is open, you see cleanly. When it is clouded, the truth waits just behind the fog.

Somatic prompt

Sit quietly and take one long, clearing breath, letting the exhale be slow and complete. Bring your attention to the space between your brows. Ask yourself a single honest question and notice the first clean answer that arrives, before the mind crowds it with qualifications. The Ace of Air invites you to trust that first clarity and to name one true thing today, out loud or on paper, that you have been keeping in the fog.

The Suit of Air

Two of Air

Two of Swords · The Blindfold

Stalemate and the Inward Truce

MAYBEMoon in LibraThird Eye (Ajna)

"You already know. The looking comes when it comes"

The deeper meaning

The Two of Air is the blindfold, the stalemate where you hold two truths and cannot yet choose between them. In traditional tarot the Two of Swords shows a blindfolded figure holding two crossed blades, balanced and still, a tense truce maintained by refusing to look. In the Cocoon Method, The Blindfold is the card of the inner stalemate, the moment when you already know but are not ready to see. The not-looking is not always avoidance. Sometimes it is the psyche holding a difficult truth at arm\'s length until you are strong enough to face it. The card honours the pause while gently reminding you the blindfold is yours to lift.

Upright

When the Two of Air appears upright, you are in a stalemate, holding two truths or two choices in tense balance, the blindfold keeping you from seeing clearly. This is the inner truce, the temporary not-looking. The card affirms that you already know more than you are letting yourself see, and that the looking will come when it comes. It asks you to be honest about the blindfold without forcing it off before its time.

Keywordsstalemate · the inner truce · holding two truths · the temporary not-looking

Reversed

Reversed, the Two of Air is the choice made by what was avoided. The blindfold comes off, often not by your choosing, and you are forced to see what you were holding away. The indecision collapses. The reversed card asks you to meet what is now visible with as much steadiness as you can, and to notice the cost of having looked away for so long. What you would not decide has begun to decide itself.

Keywordsblindfold removed · forced to see · indecision collapsing

The astrology

The Two of Air is Moon in Libra, the emotional tides of the Moon meeting the balancing, relational air of Libra. The Moon brings feeling and instinct, while Libra seeks equilibrium and fair weighing. Together they create the signature of the decan, a held balance between competing truths, the felt difficulty of choosing when both sides have weight, the temporary peace of not yet deciding.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs perception and the willingness to see. In the Two of Air, the Third Eye is deliberately veiled, the seeing suspended while the psyche holds two truths in balance. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that knows even when it will not look. When the Third Eye is ready, the blindfold lifts on its own. When it is forced too early, clarity becomes overwhelm.

Somatic prompt

Sit with your eyes closed and bring to mind the choice or truth you have been holding at a distance. Breathe and notice where the tension lives in your body, often the jaw, the brow, the chest. Without forcing a decision, silently ask: what part of me already knows? Let the answer be felt rather than spoken. The Two of Air invites you to acknowledge the blindfold honestly and to trust that your seeing will come in its own time.

Three of Air

Three of Swords · The Heartbreak

Honest Pain and the Cut That Heals

NOSaturn in LibraHeart (Anahata)

"Let it hurt. The truth is finally arriving"

The deeper meaning

The Three of Air is the heartbreak, the honest pain of the truth that cuts and, in cutting, begins to heal. In traditional tarot the Three of Swords shows a heart pierced by three blades beneath a stormy sky, one of the deck\'s most unflinching images of grief. In the Cocoon Method, The Heartbreak is the card that says: let it hurt, the truth is finally arriving. This is not pain for its own sake. It is the necessary cut, the moment a painful reality is finally felt rather than denied. The card holds that heartbreak is sometimes the body\'s honest response to truth, and that the feeling of it is the beginning of the wound\'s healing.

Upright

When the Three of Air appears upright, there is real pain here, and the card asks you to let it be real. A painful truth is arriving, a heartbreak, a necessary cut. This is honest pain, the kind that comes from finally seeing or feeling something true. The card does not rush you past it. It invites you to let it hurt, to allow the grief its passage through the body, because the pain felt cleanly is the pain that can begin to move and heal.

Keywordsheartbreak · the painful truth · the necessary cut · honest pain

Reversed

Reversed, the Three of Air is the wound unnamed that keeps bleeding. The heartbreak is denied, numbed, or left untended, and so it lingers without resolving. The reversed card gently asks you to turn toward the pain you have been avoiding, because a wound cannot close while it goes unacknowledged. Naming the hurt is not weakness. It is the first tending. This is a tender card, and if the grief feels too large to hold alone, it is a sign to reach toward support.

Keywordsdenial · numbing · the wound left untended

The astrology

The Three of Air is Saturn in Libra, the weight of Saturn pressing on the relational, harmony-seeking air of Libra. Saturn brings hard truth, limitation, and the lessons that come through loss, while Libra governs love and connection. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the sorrow that comes when a relationship or an ideal meets a hard reality, the painful clarity that breaks the heart open so it can eventually mend more honestly.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs love, grief, and the capacity to feel deeply. In the Three of Air, the Heart is where the cut lands, where the painful truth is felt in the body as ache. In the Cocoon Method, the Heart is what must be allowed to grieve rather than armoured over. When the Heart is permitted its sorrow, it heals. When the grief is locked away, the wound stays open beneath the surface.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over your heart and take a slow breath into the space beneath them. If there is grief present, let yourself feel its weight without trying to fix or explain it. You might silently say: this is allowed to hurt. Let the breath move gently through the ache. The Three of Air invites you to tend the heartbreak with the same care you would offer someone you love, and to remember that feeling the pain is how it begins to move. If the pain feels too heavy to carry alone, please consider reaching out to someone you trust.

The Suit of Air

Four of Air

Four of Swords · The Rest

Sanctuary and the Quiet Mind

YESJupiter in LibraThird Eye (Ajna)

"The nervous system needs silence"

The deeper meaning

The Four of Air is the rest, the sanctuary where the overstimulated mind is finally allowed to go quiet. In traditional tarot the Four of Swords shows a figure lying in repose, often in a chapel, blades stilled, a deliberate retreat into stillness. In the Cocoon Method, The Rest is the card of sanctuary and the quiet mind, the recognition that the nervous system needs silence to recover. This is not laziness or avoidance. It is the necessary pause, the withdrawal before re-entry, the medicine of stillness for a mind that has been running too hard for too long. The card gives permission to stop.

Upright

When the Four of Air appears upright, you are being given permission to rest. The nervous system needs silence, the mind needs sanctuary, and the most productive thing you can do is stop. This is a card of deliberate stillness, the quiet before return. The card invites you to honour the pause without guilt, to retreat into genuine rest, and to trust that recovery is not time wasted but the very thing that makes return possible.

Keywordsrest · sanctuary · the quiet mind · withdrawal · the pause before re-entry

Reversed

Reversed, the Four of Air is hiding wearing the clothes of rest, or the collapse that comes when rest is refused too long. Either burnout has forced you down, or what looks like rest has become a place to avoid life. The reversed card asks you to discern which it is. If you have been running past your limits, the shutdown is your body insisting. If you have been hiding, the rest has done its work and it is time to gently re-enter.

Keywordsburnout · forced collapse · nervous system shutdown

The astrology

The Four of Air is Jupiter in Libra, the expansive, benevolent influence of Jupiter meeting the harmony-seeking air of Libra. Jupiter brings grace, ease, and restoration, while Libra seeks balance and peace. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the blessing of restorative stillness, the spacious calm that allows the mind to settle and the nervous system to find its equilibrium again.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs the mind and its need for clarity, which can only return through stillness. In the Four of Air, the Third Eye is being allowed to rest, the overactive mind permitted to go quiet. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that heals through silence rather than effort. When the Third Eye is given rest, clarity returns naturally. When it is never allowed to pause, thought becomes noise.

Somatic prompt

Lie down or settle into a fully supported position. Let your body be held by the surface beneath you and take several slow breaths, making each exhale longer than the inhale. Give yourself permission to do nothing and think nothing for a few minutes. If the mind races, simply notice it and return to the breath. The Four of Air invites you to treat rest as sacred and necessary, and to let the nervous system remember what quiet feels like.

Conflict and the Cost of Being Right

NOVenus in AquariusThroat (Vishuddha)

"Won, and what did it cost"

The deeper meaning

The Five of Air is the hollow win, the conflict won at a cost that makes the victory taste like loss. In traditional tarot the Five of Swords shows a figure gathering blades with a smirk while others walk away defeated, a win that has emptied the room. In the Cocoon Method, The Hollow Win is the card of cleverness used against love, the cost of needing to be right. It asks the uncomfortable question: you won, and what did it cost? This is the conflict where the sharp mind defeats connection, where being correct mattered more than being kind, and the prize turns out to be loneliness.

Upright

When the Five of Air appears upright, you may be in a conflict where winning costs more than losing would. This is the hollow win, the moment cleverness defeats love, the satisfaction of being right that leaves you standing alone. The card asks you to look honestly at what a victory is actually costing you, to notice whether you are winning the argument and losing the relationship, and to consider whether being right is worth what it takes.

Keywordsconflict · the hollow win · cleverness against love · the cost of being right

Reversed

Reversed, the Five of Air is the sword put down at last. A truce is offered, a willingness to lose the point in order to keep the connection, a learning of what is actually worth winning. The reversed card marks the softening after the hollow victory, the recognition that not every battle needs to be fought. It asks you to lay down the cleverness and choose repair over rightness.

Keywordstruce offered · willingness to lose to keep the relationship · learning what is worth winning

The astrology

The Five of Air is Venus in Aquarius, the relational warmth of Venus meeting the detached, principled air of Aquarius. Venus governs love and connection, while Aquarius can prioritise ideas and being right over feeling. The tension between them is the decan\'s signature, the clash between the heart\'s need for connection and the mind\'s need to win, the cost that comes when intellect overrides love.

The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) governs communication and the way words can either connect or wound. In the Five of Air, the Throat is where the sharp word lands, where cleverness becomes a weapon. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that learns the difference between speaking truth and using truth to win. When the Throat is aligned with the heart, words repair. When it serves the ego alone, words conquer and empty.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a recent conflict where being right felt important. Breathe into your throat and chest and notice what the victory actually cost you, in connection, in peace. Place a hand on your throat and silently ask: was it worth it? Let the honest answer arise. The Five of Air invites you to notice where cleverness has been winning at the expense of love, and to consider laying the sword down.

"Leaving the storm. Trust the ferry"

The deeper meaning

The Six of Air is the crossing, the transition from turbulent water to a quieter shore. In traditional tarot the Six of Swords shows a figure being ferried across still water toward a distant bank, blades upright in the boat, leaving a difficult place behind. In the Cocoon Method, The Crossing is the card of necessary leaving, of letting yourself be carried away from the storm toward calmer ground. This is movement that may feel like grief even as it heals, the bittersweet passage between what was and what will be. The card asks you to trust the ferry, to let yourself be carried, to leave the storm behind even when the leaving aches.

Upright

When the Six of Air appears upright, you are crossing toward calmer water. A difficult chapter is being left behind, and you are moving, perhaps slowly and with some sorrow, toward a quieter shore. This is a necessary transition. The card invites you to let yourself be carried, to trust that the movement away from the storm is right even if the destination is not yet visible, and to allow the crossing its quiet grief.

Keywordstransition · the quieter shore · letting yourself be carried · necessary leaving

Reversed

Reversed, the Six of Air is returning to the storm because calm felt foreign. The crossing is refused, or you find yourself drawn back into the chaos you left because the quiet felt unfamiliar and uneasy. The reversed card asks you to notice this pull, to recognise that peace can feel strange to a nervous system used to turbulence, and to let yourself keep moving toward the shore even when stillness is uncomfortable.

Keywordsthe crossing refused · staying in chaos · the journey postponed

The astrology

The Six of Air is Mercury in Aquarius, the communicative, perceptive Mercury meeting the forward-looking air of Aquarius. Mercury governs movement, thought, and travel, while Aquarius brings vision and the willingness to move toward something new. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the mental clarity that allows necessary departure, the perceptive movement away from the old turbulence toward a more spacious future.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs perspective and the ability to see a way forward. In the Six of Air, the Third Eye is what perceives the quieter shore and trusts the direction of the crossing. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that holds the larger view during transition. When the Third Eye is clear, you can see that the movement is toward healing. When it is clouded, the crossing feels like only loss.

Somatic prompt

Imagine yourself in a small boat on calming water, the storm behind you, a quiet shore ahead. Breathe slowly and let your body soften into the sensation of being carried, of not having to row. Silently say: I am allowed to move toward calmer water. Notice any pull to turn back toward the turbulence. In traditional tarot the Seven of Swords shows a figure slipping away carrying blades, a scene of stealth and clever maneuvering. In the Cocoon Method, The Strategy is the card of seeing the angles, doing things your own way, and the quiet warning to notice what is being hidden, even from yourself. This is the mind at its most resourceful and its most self-deceiving. The card invites a particular honesty, asking you to examine your own strategies for the places where cleverness has quietly become avoidance or lying.

Upright

When the Seven of Air appears upright, strategy and cleverness are in play. You may be seeing the angles, finding an unconventional path, doing things your own way. This can be genuinely resourceful. But the card carries a quiet instruction: notice what is being hidden, even from yourself. It asks you to examine your own motives honestly, to make sure your cleverness is serving truth rather than helping you avoid it.

Keywordsstrategy · cleverness · stealth · doing it your own way · seeing the angles

Reversed

Reversed, the Seven of Air is the strategist fooled by his own strategy. Self-deception has set in, the lies told to yourself, cleverness curdled into manipulation that no longer fools anyone but you. The reversed card asks you to catch the moment where your own cunning has turned against your clarity, where you have outsmarted yourself into a corner. Honesty is the only way out of a trap built from clever lies.

Keywordsself-deception · lying to yourself · cleverness as manipulation

The astrology

The Seven of Air is Moon in Aquarius, the instinctive feeling of the Moon meeting the detached, inventive air of Aquarius. The Moon brings the hidden inner world, while Aquarius brings the clever, unconventional mind. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the strategist\'s blend of instinct and ingenuity, the resourcefulness that can either navigate skillfully or slip into self-deception when feeling and cleverness conspire to avoid the truth.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs insight and the honest seeing of one\'s own mind. In the Seven of Air, the Third Eye is asked to turn its perception inward, to see through one\'s own strategies. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that catches self-deception. When the Third Eye is honest, cleverness serves truth. When it colludes with avoidance, the strategist deceives himself first.

Somatic prompt

Sit quietly and bring to mind a situation where you have been managing, strategising, or finding clever ways around something. Breathe into the space between your brows and ask, with real honesty: what am I hiding here, even from myself? Let the answer arrive without judgment. The Seven of Air invites you to turn your perceptiveness inward and to notice where cleverness has been quietly avoiding a truth you would rather not face.

Eight of Air

Eight of Swords · The Trap

Mental Bondage and Liberation Through Awareness

NOJupiter in GeminiThird Eye (Ajna)

"The cage door has always been open"

The deeper meaning

The Eight of Air is the trap, the prison of thought whose door has always been open. In traditional tarot the Eight of Swords shows a bound, blindfolded figure surrounded by blades, seemingly caged, yet the path out is clear if only they could see it. In the Cocoon Method, The Trap is the card of feeling trapped by a limitation that is mostly mental, the cage built of beliefs rather than bars. This is the particular suffering of the mind that has convinced itself there is no way out, when in truth the door has never been locked. The card holds both the reality of the felt entrapment and the quiet, liberating truth that the body can walk free the moment the mind sees clearly.

Upright

When the Eight of Air appears upright, you feel trapped, and the card asks you to look closely at the nature of the cage. This is the prison of thought, the limitation that feels absolute but is largely mental. The bindings are beliefs, the bars are assumptions. The card does not dismiss how real the trapped feeling is, but it points to a liberating possibility: the cage door has always been open, and seeing this clearly is the first step toward walking free.

Keywordsfeeling trapped · the prison of thought · the limitation that is mostly mental

Reversed

Reversed, the Eight of Air is the door seen and the body remembering it can walk. The trap is recognised as mental, the assumptions questioned, the way out suddenly visible. The reversed card marks the moment of liberation, when you realise the limitation was never as solid as it felt. It asks you to take the step you can now see, to let the body move through the door the mind has finally noticed is open.

Keywordsthe trap recognised · seeing the door · breaking free · liberation

The astrology

The Eight of Air is Jupiter in Gemini, the expansive Jupiter meeting the quick, multiplying mind of Gemini. Jupiter magnifies, while Gemini generates endless thoughts and possibilities. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the mind that can spin a cage out of its own proliferating thoughts, but also the same expansive intelligence that, turned toward truth, can see the way out and free itself.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs perception and the recognition of what is real versus what is imagined. In the Eight of Air, the Third Eye is what must see through the mental cage to the open door. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that distinguishes a true limit from a believed one. When the Third Eye sees clearly, the trap dissolves. When it is clouded by fear, the cage feels absolute.

Somatic prompt

Sit and notice any sense of being stuck or trapped in your current situation. Breathe and bring gentle attention to the space between your brows. Ask: which of these bars are real, and which are made of thought? Then look, in your mind\'s eye, for the open door. The Eight of Air invites you to let your body feel the possibility of movement, to take one small step toward the opening the mind has finally noticed.

The Suit of Air

Nine of Air

Nine of Swords · The 3am Mind

Anxiety and the Long Night

NOMars in GeminiThird Eye (Ajna)

"The thoughts are loud. They are not all true"

The deeper meaning

The Nine of Air is the 3am mind, the long night of anxious thought when the spiral feels endless and the worst stories feel true. In traditional tarot the Nine of Swords shows a figure sitting up in bed, head in hands, blades lining the wall behind, the classic image of anguish in the dark. In the Cocoon Method, The 3am Mind is the card of anxiety and the long night, the catastrophic thinking that visits when the world is quiet and the mind is loud. This is a tender card, and it carries a gentle, steadying truth: the thoughts are loud, but they are not all true. The card does not minimise the suffering. It simply offers a hand in the dark, a reminder that the spiral, however convincing, is not reality.

Upright

When the Nine of Air appears upright, the mind is loud and the night feels long. This is anxiety, the spiral of catastrophic thinking, the thoughts that grow enormous in the dark. The card meets you with gentleness rather than alarm. It offers a quiet truth to hold onto: the thoughts are loud, but they are not all true. It invites you to find ground, to remember that the spiraling mind is not an accurate witness, and to be tender with yourself through the long night.

Keywordsanxiety · insomnia · catastrophic thinking · the spiral · the mind in the dark

Reversed

Reversed, the Nine of Air is dawn coming and the mind beginning to quiet. The anxiety is easing, you are learning to witness the thoughts rather than be swept away by them, and ground is returning beneath you. The reversed card marks the slow lifting of the long night, the moment you begin to see the spiral as a spiral rather than as truth. It affirms that the worst of the night does pass, and that you are finding your footing again.

Keywordsanxiety easing · learning to witness the thoughts · finding ground

The astrology

The Nine of Air is Mars in Gemini, the agitating energy of Mars meeting the rapid, restless mind of Gemini. Mars brings urgency and heat, while Gemini multiplies thoughts at speed. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the racing, agitated mind, the anxious churning that turns ordinary worries into the loud catastrophic chorus of the sleepless night.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs the mind and its relationship to truth and distortion. In the Nine of Air, the Third Eye is overwhelmed by the spiraling mind, perception hijacked by fear. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that learns to witness thought rather than believe it. When the Third Eye finds steadiness, the loud thoughts lose their grip. When it is flooded, the spiral feels like the only reality.

Somatic prompt

If the mind is racing, bring your attention down out of your head and into your body. Place both feet flat on the floor and feel their weight. Place a hand on your chest or belly and take slow breaths, lengthening the exhale. Silently say: the thoughts are loud, and they are not all true. Feel the ground holding you. The Nine of Air invites you to come back to the body as an anchor when the mind spirals, and to be gentle with yourself in the dark. If anxious thoughts become overwhelming or persistent, reaching out to a trusted person or a professional can help you find steadier ground.

The Suit of Air

Ten of Air

Ten of Swords · The End of the Story

Rock Bottom and Completion

NOSun in GeminiThroat (Vishuddha)

"It is over. Something quieter begins"

The deeper meaning

The Ten of Air is the end of the story, rock bottom and the strange completion that comes with it. In traditional tarot the Ten of Swords shows a figure face down with ten blades in their back beneath a dark sky already lightening at the horizon, the absolute end and the first hint of dawn. In the Cocoon Method, The End of the Story is the card of the painful ending that is also, finally, over. There is a peculiar relief in rock bottom: the worst has happened, the dreaded thing is complete, and something quieter can now begin. The card does not pretend the ending is painless. It simply points to the dawn already touching the edge of the sky.

Upright

When the Ten of Air appears upright, something is ending, and the ending is painful. This is rock bottom, the final cut, the dramatic close of a difficult chapter. Yet the card carries an unexpected mercy: it is over, and something quieter begins. The very finality holds relief. The card invites you to let the ending be complete rather than clinging to what is already gone, and to notice the faint light of dawn at the edge of the long night.

Keywordsrock bottom · the painful ending · the final cut · dawn after the longest night

Reversed

Reversed, the Ten of Air is still in the wreckage long after the storm. The ending is refused, the drama prolonged, the lesson not yet learned, and so you remain among the blades long after you could have risen. The reversed card asks you to notice where you are keeping a finished story alive, and to allow the ending to actually end so that the quieter beginning can come. The dawn is waiting, but you must be willing to get up.

Keywordsthe ending refused · the dramatic finish · the lesson not yet learned

The astrology

The Ten of Air is Sun in Gemini, the illuminating Sun meeting the mental, communicative air of Gemini. The Sun brings light and the eventual clarity that follows, while Gemini governs the mind and its stories. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the painful culmination of a mental cycle and the dawning light that follows it, the moment the longest night of thought finally gives way to first light.

The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) governs truth and the naming of what is. In the Ten of Air, the Throat is where the final truth is spoken, the ending acknowledged out loud. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that lets you say it is over and mean it. When the Throat speaks the ending honestly, completion comes. When it cannot, the story drags on unfinished.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something that has truly ended, however painful. Take a slow breath and, on the exhale, let your body acknowledge the finality. You might silently say: it is over, and something quieter can begin. Notice any relief beneath the grief, however small. The Ten of Air invites you to let the ending be complete and to turn, even slightly, toward the first light of what comes after.

The Suit of Air

Page of Air

Page of Swords · The Question

Curiosity and Honest Inquiry

YESEarth of AirThird Eye (Ajna)

"The answer lives inside the asking"

The deeper meaning

The Page of Air is the question, the curious mind willing to inquire honestly before it claims to know. In traditional tarot the Page of Swords stands alert with a raised blade, watchful and eager, the youthful energy of intellect just beginning. In the Cocoon Method, The Question is the card of curiosity and honest inquiry, the recognition that the answer often lives inside the asking. This is the mind at its freshest and most open, hungry to learn, willing to not-know long enough to discover something real. The card celebrates the courage of the genuine question and the aliveness of a mind that has not yet hardened into certainty.

Upright

When the Page of Air appears upright, a curious, inquiring energy is present. This is the willingness to ask, to learn, to follow a new idea with honest interest. The answer lives inside the asking. The card invites you to stay in genuine inquiry, to let yourself be a beginner, to ask the real question rather than rushing to a comfortable answer, and to trust that curiosity itself is a form of intelligence.

Keywordscuriosity · learning · the new idea · honest inquiry · the willingness to ask

Reversed

Reversed, the Page of Air is the question shaped into a knife. Curiosity curdles into gossip, cleverness without depth, suspicion, the mind running faster than the heart can follow. The reversed card asks you to notice where your inquiry has become sharp or unkind, where asking has turned into probing for ammunition. It invites you to slow the mind down to the pace of the heart and to let your questions be honest rather than weaponised.

Keywordsgossip · cleverness without depth · suspicion · the mind faster than the heart

The astrology

The Page of Air carries the elemental signature Earth of Air, the grounding, practical aspect of the airy suit. This is mind beginning to take form, thought rooted in genuine curiosity about the real world. As the Page, this blend creates the fresh, inquiring intelligence, the youthful mind willing to ask and learn, ideas just starting to find their footing in lived experience.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs curiosity, perception, and the hunger to understand. In the Page of Air, the Third Eye is freshly awake, eager to learn and inquire. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of honest questioning, the mind open enough to not-know. When the Third Eye is curious and kind, inquiry opens worlds. When it sharpens into suspicion, the question becomes a blade.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind something you have been certain about. Take a breath and, with genuine curiosity, ask: what if I do not fully know this yet? Notice the slight opening that honest inquiry creates in the body and mind. The Page of Air invites you to hold a real question today, to stay curious rather than certain, and to let the asking itself be a doorway.

The Suit of Air

Knight of Swords · The Truth Teller

Bold Speech and Clarity in Action

YESFire of AirThroat (Vishuddha)

"Speak. The world is waiting for the voice"

The deeper meaning

The Knight of Air is the truth teller, the bold voice that says the thing cleanly and lets it land. In traditional tarot the Knight of Swords charges forward at full gallop, blade raised, the swiftest and most forceful of the knights. In the Cocoon Method, The Truth Teller is the card of bold speech and clarity in action, the voice that cuts through evasion and says what needs saying. This is the mind in committed motion, advocacy in full voice. The card celebrates the courage to speak truth cleanly while holding the deck\'s persistent caution: that the same blade which cuts through dishonesty can also wound when it loses its connection to the heart.

Upright

When the Knight of Air appears upright, it is time to speak. The world is waiting for the voice, and you are called to say the truth cleanly, to advocate, to cut through evasion with clarity. This is bold speech in service of what is real. The card invites you to use your voice with courage, to say the thing that needs saying, and to let your clarity move things forward, while keeping the heart connected to the blade.

Keywordsbold speech · the truth said cleanly · the voice that cuts through · advocacy

Reversed

Reversed, the Knight of Air is cruelty wearing the name of honesty. The truth is weaponised, words used to dominate, arrogance masquerading as candour, the mind charging ahead without the heart. The reversed card asks you to notice where your honesty has lost its kindness, where speaking your truth has become a way to wound or win. True clarity does not need to cut people down. It invites you to slow the charge and let the heart catch up to the voice.

Keywordsthe truth weaponised · arrogance · words used to dominate · the mind without the heart

The astrology

The Knight of Air carries the elemental signature Fire of Air, the active, driving aspect of the airy suit. This is thought in bold motion, ideas charged with the force to act and speak. As the Knight, this blend creates the truth teller in full gallop, the voice that moves swiftly and decisively, clarity given the fire to cut through and the momentum to carry it into the world.

The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) governs voice, speech, and the courage to say what is true. In the Knight of Air, the Throat is fully activated, the voice bold and clear. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of committed truth-telling. When the Throat speaks from clarity joined to heart, the truth liberates. When it speaks from the mind alone, the same words can cut and wound.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a truth you have been hesitating to speak. Breathe into your throat and feel for the voice waiting there. Silently rehearse saying it cleanly, with both courage and care. Notice whether the impulse carries warmth or only sharpness, and let the heart soften the edge. The Knight of Air invites you to speak the needed truth boldly, keeping the blade connected to the heart so that your clarity opens rather than wounds.

The Suit of Air

Queen of Air

Queen of Swords · The Clear One

YESWater of AirThird Eye (Ajna)

"She sees clearly. She earned this clarity"

The deeper meaning

The Queen of Air is the clear one, the discernment that sees through everything and has earned the right to that clarity through what she has lived. In traditional tarot the Queen of Swords sits with an upright blade and an open hand, perceptive and unsentimental, often associated with someone who has known loss and emerged sharper for it. In the Cocoon Method, The Clear One is the card of discernment and sharp tenderness, the mind that perceives honestly without losing its capacity for warmth. Her clarity is not coldness. It is the hard-won seeing of someone who has been through enough to recognise truth instantly, paired with the tenderness that keeps that sharpness from becoming cruelty.

Upright

When the Queen of Air appears upright, you are invited into clear, discerning perception. This is the mind that sees honestly, cuts through illusion, and knows what is real, a clarity earned through experience. The card affirms your capacity for sharp tenderness, for perceiving truthfully while remaining kind. It asks you to trust your discernment, to honour what you clearly see, and to let your clarity be in service of truth and warmth together.

Keywordsclarity · discernment · honest perception · sovereignty of thought · sharp tenderness

Reversed

Reversed, the Queen of Air is the mind armoured against the heart. The clarity has hardened into cynicism, the sharpness wounds rather than illuminates, loneliness has become an identity, and cleverness has lost its warmth. The reversed card asks you to notice where your perceptiveness has become a wall, where the armour built to protect you now keeps connection out. It invites you to let the tenderness back in, to soften the blade without losing the sight.

Keywordscynicism · sharpness that wounds · loneliness as identity · cleverness without warmth

The astrology

The Queen of Air carries the elemental signature Water of Air, the feeling, receptive aspect of the airy suit. This is mind softened by feeling, clarity deepened by emotional truth, the discernment that perceives with both sharpness and heart. As the Queen, this blend creates earned clarity, the perceptive intelligence matured by what has been felt and survived.

The chakra

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna) governs discernment and clear perception. In the Queen of Air, the Third Eye is fully matured, seeing honestly and without illusion. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of earned clarity held with tenderness. When the Third Eye sees with an open heart, discernment serves love. When it armours over, clarity becomes cold and isolating.

Somatic prompt

Sit tall and take a breath into the space between your brows and into your heart at once. Bring to mind something you see clearly that others may not. Honour your perception, and then check: is it held with tenderness, or has it hardened? Let your clear seeing and your warmth coexist. The Queen of Air invites you to trust your earned discernment while keeping the heart open beneath the sharpness.

YESAir of AirThroat (Vishuddha)

"Lead with truth. Speak so the world can hear"

The deeper meaning

The King of Air is the voice, the ethical leadership that uses truth to shape rather than to dominate. In traditional tarot the King of Swords sits in full authority with an upright blade, the master of intellect, law, and principled judgment. In the Cocoon Method, The Voice is the card of ethical leadership and the truth that shapes, the mature mind that speaks so the world can hear and uses its clarity in service of what is right. This is intellectual sovereignty at its most responsible, the leader whose words carry weight because they are anchored in principle. The card celebrates truth wielded ethically and warns against the cold tyranny of intellect divorced from heart.

Upright

When the King of Air appears upright, you are called to lead with truth. This is ethical leadership, the mature voice that speaks so the world can hear, principled action anchored in clear thought. The card affirms your intellectual sovereignty and your capacity to shape outcomes through honest, principled speech. It asks you to lead with integrity, to let your truth serve what is right, and to use the authority of your clarity in service of others.

Keywordsmental sovereignty · ethical leadership · truth that shapes · principled action

Reversed

Reversed, the King of Air is words gone cold from the long winter of the mind. The intellect has become tyrannical, rationality severed from feeling, truth used as a tool of control. The reversed card asks you to notice where your principled clarity has frozen into coldness, where being right has eclipsed being humane. It invites you to thaw the mind with heart, to let your truth-telling carry warmth, and to lead from principle joined to care rather than intellect alone.

Keywordstyranny of intellect · cold rationality · using truth as control

The astrology

The King of Air carries the elemental signature Air of Air, the purest expression of the suit, mind in full mastery. This is intellect at its most sovereign and clear, thought wielded with complete command. The chakra

The Throat chakra (Vishuddha) governs authoritative, ethical speech and the power of the word to shape reality. In the King of Air, the Throat is in full mastery, truth spoken with principled authority. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of the leader\'s voice. When the Throat serves truth joined to heart, the word shapes justly. When it serves intellect alone, the word becomes cold control.

Somatic prompt

Stand tall and grounded. Breathe into your throat and feel the steadiness of a voice anchored in principle. Bring to mind a place where you are called to lead or to speak with authority. "Something real is being offered"

The deeper meaning

The Ace of Earth is the first seed, the tangible gift offered into real and waiting hands. In traditional tarot the Ace of Pentacles is a hand emerging from a cloud holding a single golden coin above a flowering garden, pure material potential before it has been planted. In the Cocoon Method this is The First Seed, the moment something real and solid is offered, an opportunity, a resource, a beginning you can actually hold. Unlike the spark of Fire or the feeling of Water, this gift has weight and substance. The Ace asks that you receive it into the real world, that you let the seed touch soil, and that you trust your own ground to hold what is being given.

Upright

When the Ace of Earth appears upright, something real is being offered. An opportunity, a resource, the seed of prosperity, a gift you can hold in your hands. This is tangible potential, the beginning of something solid and lasting. The card invites you to receive the offer fully, to plant the seed in real soil, and to take the practical first step that lets this new abundance begin to grow into form.

Reversed

Reversed, the Ace of Earth is the seed planted in soil that cannot hold it. The opportunity is refused, the gift not received, grounding lost so that what is offered cannot take root. The reversed card asks you to notice where you are turning away from real support, or where the ground beneath a new beginning is not yet stable enough to hold it. It invites you to tend the soil first, to build enough ground that the gift, when it comes, can stay.

Keywordsopportunity refused · the gift not received · scarcity · grounding lost

The astrology

The Ace of Earth carries the pure element of Earth itself, not a single decan but the essence of the suit, the raw material of manifestation before it takes form. Earth is the principle of substance, grounding, and tangible abundance. As an Ace it is uncontained and full of potential, the elemental energy of the gift in its first and purest form, the seed before any sign or planet has shaped its growing.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs security, grounding, and our relationship to the material world. In the Ace of Earth, the Root is where the seed is received, where the offer becomes real and held in the body. In the Cocoon Method, the Root is the foundation that allows abundance to take root. When it is stable, the gift can be received and grown. When it is unsteady, even good offerings cannot find their footing.

Somatic prompt

Sit with both feet flat on the floor and feel the solid ground beneath you. Cup your hands as if to receive something real. Breathe down into the base of your spine and bring to mind an opportunity or gift that is being offered to you. Silently say: I am allowed to receive this, and my ground can hold it. The Ace of Earth invites you to take one practical step today that plants the seed in real soil.

Balance and Finding the Rhythm

MAYBEJupiter in CapricornSacral (Svadhisthana)

"Both can be held. Find the rhythm"

The deeper meaning

The Two of Earth is the juggle, the dance of holding more than one thing and finding the rhythm that keeps them aloft. In traditional tarot the Two of Pentacles shows a figure dancing while juggling two coins bound by an infinity loop, ships rising and falling on waves behind. In the Cocoon Method, The Juggle is the card of balance in motion, the recognition that both things can be held if you find the rhythm rather than gripping. This is not the stillness of equilibrium but the living balance of movement, the body learning to keep multiple demands flowing without dropping into overwhelm. The card teaches that adaptability, not rigidity, is what keeps the juggle alive.

Upright

When the Two of Earth appears upright, you are holding multiple things at once, and the card says it can be done if you find the rhythm. This is balance in motion, the adaptable dance of competing priorities. The card invites you to stop gripping and start flowing, to trust that you can keep several things aloft if you stay light and responsive, and to find the rhythm that lets the juggle become almost graceful rather than frantic.

Keywordsbalance · juggling priorities · adaptability · finding flow · keeping the rhythm

Reversed

Reversed, the Two of Earth is the juggle that became the drop. Overwhelm has set in, focus has scattered, you are trying to hold too much and the rhythm has broken into exhaustion. The reversed card asks you to notice what can be set down, to recognise that some things were never yours to keep aloft, and to let go of one ball before they all fall. Not everything needs to be juggled at once.

Keywordsoverwhelm · scattered focus · trying to hold too much · exhaustion

The astrology

The Two of Earth is Jupiter in Capricorn, the expansive Jupiter meeting the disciplined, practical earth of Capricorn. Jupiter brings growth and possibility, while Capricorn governs structure and the management of the material world. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the capacity to handle expanding demands with practical skill, the adaptable balancing of growth and responsibility that keeps multiple commitments in healthy motion.

The chakra

The Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) governs flow, flexibility, and the capacity to move with change. In the Two of Earth, the Sacral is where the rhythm of the juggle lives, the fluid adaptability that keeps things in motion. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that allows balance to be dynamic rather than rigid. When the Sacral flows, the juggle becomes a dance. When it stiffens, the balls begin to drop.

Somatic prompt

Stand and gently sway or shift your weight from foot to foot, finding a light, easy rhythm. Breathe into your lower belly and bring to mind the things you are currently holding. Rather than gripping them tightly, imagine letting them move in an easy flow. Notice if any one of them is too heavy to keep aloft. The Two of Earth invites you to find the rhythm that keeps your commitments dancing, and to set down whatever has become too much.

Three of Pentacles · The Apprentice

Learning and the Craft of Becoming

YESMars in CapricornSolar Plexus (Manipura)

"Let yourself be taught"

The deeper meaning

The Three of Earth is the apprentice, the humility and collaboration of letting yourself be taught. In traditional tarot the Three of Pentacles shows a craftsperson at work in a cathedral while others consult the plans, skill being honed through collaboration and instruction. In the Cocoon Method, The Apprentice is the card of learning, of the craft of becoming, of allowing yourself to occupy the apprentice\'s chair rather than pretending to already know. This is mastery understood as a process rather than a possession, the willingness to be a student of your own becoming. The card honours the dignity of learning and the strength it takes to be taught.

Upright

When the Three of Earth appears upright, you are in a season of learning and collaboration. Skill is being honed, teaching is available, and the card invites you to let yourself be taught. This is the craft of becoming, the apprentice\'s humility that makes real mastery possible. The card asks you to receive instruction with openness, to collaborate rather than compete, and to honour the slow, dignified work of developing your craft alongside others.

Keywordscollaboration · skill being honed · learning · craft · receiving teaching

Reversed

Reversed, the Three of Earth is the ego refusing the apprentice\'s chair. Pretending to know, isolating rather than collaborating, the master wound that cannot bear to be a beginner again. The reversed card asks you to notice where pride is blocking your learning, where the refusal to be taught is keeping you stuck. It invites you to set down the need to already know and to let yourself, once more, be a student.

Keywordsego · pretending to know · isolation · the master wound

The astrology

The Three of Earth is Mars in Capricorn, the driving energy of Mars meeting the disciplined earth of Capricorn, traditionally the sign of Mars\'s exaltation. Mars brings focused effort, while Capricorn brings structure, mastery, and the long work of building. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the energetic dedication to craft, the productive, ambitious application of effort to skill that defines the committed apprentice becoming a master.

The chakra

The Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) governs competence, agency, and the confidence built through developing skill. In the Three of Earth, the Solar Plexus is where the apprentice\'s growing mastery lives, the self-trust that comes from honing a craft. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that strengthens through being taught. When the Solar Plexus is humble and willing, skill grows. When it inflates, the ego refuses to learn.

Somatic prompt

Bring to mind a skill you are developing or a place where you could be taught. Breathe into your solar plexus and notice any resistance to being a beginner. Silently say: I am allowed to learn, and being taught is a strength. Let the willingness to occupy the apprentice\'s chair settle into your body. The deeper meaning

The Four of Earth is the holding, the question of what the hand grips and why. In traditional tarot the Four of Pentacles shows a figure clutching coins tightly, one held to the chest, two beneath the feet, a posture of security that edges toward grasping. In the Cocoon Method, The Holding is the card of stewardship and the closed fist, the invitation to notice what you are gripping and whether the grip is care or fear. There is healthy stewardship here, the wise keeping of what matters, but also the warning edge where security tips into hoarding. The card asks you to feel the difference in your own hands between holding something safely and clutching it out of scarcity.

Upright

Reversed, the Four of Earth is scarcity wearing the mask of safety. The holding has become hoarding, the grip a closed fist, security has hardened into stagnation driven by fear. The reversed card asks you to notice where clutching has stopped serving you, where the fear of not-enough has frozen what wants to flow. It invites you to loosen the grip, to trust that opening the hand does not mean losing everything.

Keywordshoarding · gripping out of fear · the closed fist · stagnation

The astrology

The Four of Earth is Sun in Capricorn, the radiant Sun meeting the structured, security-seeking earth of Capricorn. The Sun brings identity and the impulse to consolidate, while Capricorn governs the material world and its keeping. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the strong drive toward security and stability, the consolidating impulse that builds safety but can tip into the closed fist when identity becomes too bound to what is held.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs safety, survival, and our relationship to security. In the Four of Earth, the Root is where the holding lives, the grip on what feels like safety. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that learns the difference between grounded stability and fearful grasping. When the Root feels secure, holding is wise stewardship. When it is anxious, the grip becomes a fearful clutch.

Somatic prompt

Make a tight fist with one hand and notice how it feels, the tension, the holding. Then slowly open the hand and feel the difference, the release, the openness. Breathe into the base of your spine and bring to mind something you have been gripping, materially or emotionally. Ask: is this care, or is this fear? The Four of Earth invites you to feel in your own body the difference between holding safely and clutching, and to loosen what fear has frozen.

Five of Earth

Five of Pentacles · The Hard Time

Hardship and the Door of Help

NOMercury in TaurusRoot (Muladhara)

"Help is closer than the eye sees"

The deeper meaning

The Five of Earth is the hard time, the hardship that feels like exile and the door of help that stands closer than the eye can see. In traditional tarot the Five of Pentacles shows two figures struggling through snow past a lit, stained-glass window, warmth and sanctuary just beyond them, unseen. In the Cocoon Method, The Hard Time is the card of hardship, loss, and the wound of feeling forgotten, paired with a tender truth: help is closer than you think. The suffering here is real, the cold genuine. But the card gently points to the lit window, to the help being walked past, to the way hardship can blind us to the support that is actually near. This is a compassionate card that holds both the pain and the possibility of warmth.

Upright

When the Five of Earth appears upright, you may be in a hard time, facing loss, struggle, or the painful feeling of being cast out or forgotten. The card does not minimise this. But it offers a quiet, important truth: help is closer than the eye sees. In the cold, it is easy to walk past the lit window. The card invites you to lift your gaze, to notice the support that may be nearer than your hardship lets you believe, and to let yourself reach toward warmth.

Keywordshardship · loss · feeling cast out · the wound of feeling forgotten · walking past help

Reversed

Reversed, the Five of Earth is pride softening and the door opening. The hardship begins to ease, help is finally received, the lit window is recognised and entered. The reversed card marks the turning, the moment you let yourself be seen and supported rather than struggling alone in the cold. It affirms that receiving help is not weakness, and that the warmth you needed was there all along, waiting for you to let it in.

Keywordsthe hardship easing · receiving help · the door recognised · letting yourself be seen

The astrology

The Five of Earth is Mercury in Taurus, the communicative Mercury meeting the steady, material earth of Taurus. Mercury governs connection and exchange, while Taurus relates to resources, security, and the body\'s needs. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the difficult passage where material or physical struggle strains connection, the cold spell in which help exists but communication and recognition of it falter.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs survival, security, and our sense of being supported in the material world. In the Five of Earth, the Root is wounded, the felt loss of safety and belonging. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that, even in hardship, can learn to receive help and rebuild ground. When the Root remembers it can be supported, the cold eases. When it believes it is utterly alone, the lit window goes unseen.

Somatic prompt

If you are in a hard time, place a hand on your lower belly and the other on your heart, and simply offer yourself warmth. Breathe and let your body know it is not as alone as the cold suggests. Bring to mind one source of help, however small, that may be closer than you have let yourself see. The Five of Earth invites you to lift your gaze toward the lit window and to let yourself reach toward support. Reaching out for help in a hard time is an act of strength, not weakness.

The Suit of Earth

Six of Earth

Six of Pentacles · The Giving

Generosity and the Two-Way Current

YESMoon in TaurusHeart (Anahata)

"True generosity flows both ways"

The deeper meaning

The Six of Earth is the giving, the two-way current of generosity that flows in both directions. In traditional tarot the Six of Pentacles shows a figure with scales distributing coins to those in need, an image of charity that also raises questions of power and balance. In the Cocoon Method, The Giving is the card of generosity and the recognition that true giving flows both ways. This is abundance shared, but it is also an inquiry into the dynamics of giving and receiving, the difference between generosity that uplifts and giving that holds power over. The card celebrates the open-handed current of real generosity while asking you to notice whether you can receive as freely as you give.

Upright

When the Six of Earth appears upright, generosity is flowing, and the card celebrates the two-way current of true giving. This is sharing abundance, helping without superiority, the healthy circulation of resources and care. The card invites you to give freely where you can and, just as importantly, to receive freely where it is offered. True generosity is a current, not a one-way street, and the card asks you to let it flow in both directions.

Keywordsgenerosity · giving and receiving · sharing abundance · helping without superiority

Reversed

Reversed, the Six of Earth is giving with strings dressed as gifts. Generosity has become a way to hold power over others, or you find yourself unable to receive, only ever giving. The reversed card asks you to notice the hidden conditions in your giving, or the pride that refuses to receive. It invites you to restore the honest two-way current, to give without control and to let yourself accept what others offer.

Keywordsgiving with strings · power held over others · refusing to receive

The astrology

The Six of Earth is Moon in Taurus, the nurturing Moon meeting the resourceful, embodied earth of Taurus, traditionally the Moon\'s exaltation. The Moon brings care and the instinct to nourish, while Taurus relates to material resources and the body. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the generous, nurturing flow of giving and receiving, the comfortable abundance that wants to share its resources and care.

The chakra

The Heart chakra (Anahata) governs generosity, compassion, and the balanced flow of giving and receiving. In the Six of Earth, the Heart is where the two-way current lives, the open-handed circulation of care. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that gives without superiority and receives without shame. When the Heart is open, generosity flows both ways. When it closes, giving becomes power or receiving becomes impossible.

Somatic prompt

Place both hands over your heart, then turn them outward in a gesture of giving, then cup them to receive. Breathe and feel the current moving in both directions. Bring to mind your own patterns: do you give more easily than you receive? Silently say: I let generosity flow both ways. The Six of Earth invites you to practise both open-handed giving and open-hearted receiving today.

Patience and Faith in the Slow Growth

MAYBESaturn in TaurusRoot (Muladhara)

"The roots are working. Trust the slow"

The deeper meaning

The Seven of Earth is the long wait, the patience of the gardener who trusts the slow, unseen work of the roots. In traditional tarot the Seven of Pentacles shows a figure leaning on a tool, contemplating a vine they have tended, the harvest not yet ready. In the Cocoon Method, The Long Wait is the card of patience and faith in slow growth, the recognition that the roots are working even when nothing visible has changed. This is the hardest kind of trust, the faith required during the long middle when effort has been made but results have not yet appeared. The card asks you to resist the urge to pull up the seed to check on it, and to trust the slow.

Upright

When the Seven of Earth appears upright, you are in the long wait, the patient middle where the work has been done and the harvest is not yet visible. The roots are working underground. The card invites you to trust the slow, to take the long view, to have faith in growth you cannot yet see. It asks you to resist the anxious urge to force or check, and to let the unseen work continue at its own pace.

Keywordspatience · the long view · the work that requires time · faith in unseen growth

Reversed

Reversed, the Seven of Earth is pulling up the seed to see if it grew. Impatience has taken over, doubt erodes the faith, the work is abandoned just before it could bear fruit. The reversed card asks you to notice where your impatience is interrupting growth that simply needs more time, or conversely, whether you are pouring effort into soil that genuinely will not yield. It invites discernment between the patience that nourishes and the persistence that drains.

Keywordsimpatience · giving up · doubt · the work abandoned

The astrology

The Seven of Earth is Saturn in Taurus, the patient discipline of Saturn meeting the steady, fertile earth of Taurus. Saturn governs time, patience, and the long work, while Taurus relates to growth, resources, and the slow fruition of the material world. Together they form the decan\'s signature, the disciplined patience required for slow growth, the faith in time and tending that defines the long wait for the harvest.

The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs patience, grounding, and our trust in the slow processes of the material world. In the Seven of Earth, the Root is where the faith in slow growth lives, the grounded patience that can wait. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre that trusts the unseen work of the roots. When the Root is steady, patience comes naturally. When it is anxious, the urge to pull up the seed becomes overwhelming.

Somatic prompt

Sit with both feet on the ground and imagine roots growing slowly downward from the base of your spine, working steadily in the dark. Breathe into that slow, patient growth. Bring to mind something you are waiting on and silently say: the roots are working, and I can trust the slow. Notice any urge to force or check, and let it settle. The Seven of Earth invites you to practise the grounded patience of the gardener.

In traditional tarot the Eight of Pentacles shows a craftsperson absorbed in their work, carving coin after coin, mastery built through repetition. In the Cocoon Method, The Practice is the card of devotion and the daily showing up, the recognition that mastery lives in the doing rather than the arriving. Show up, do the work, and let the mastery build through devotion rather than rushing toward the result.

Keywordsskilled work · dedication · the daily practice · craftsmanship · devotion

Reversed

Reversed, the Eight of Earth is the craft that became a place to disappear. Workaholism, perfectionism, grinding without purpose, skill pursued without soul. The reversed card asks you to notice where devoted practice has hardened into joyless compulsion, where you are using the work to hide or to prove your worth. It invites you to reconnect the practice to its meaning, to let the craft serve life rather than consume it.

Keywordsworkaholism · perfectionism · grinding without purpose · skill without soul

Knight of Earth

Knight of Pentacles · The Steady One

Patience and Trustworthy Follow-Through

YESFire of EarthRoot (Muladhara)

"Slow and steady. The body knows the way"

The deeper meaning

The Knight of Earth is the steady one, the reliable, methodical follow-through that the body can trust. In traditional tarot the Knight of Pentacles sits still on a stationary horse, the slowest and most dependable of the knights, surveying a ploughed field. In the Cocoon Method, The Steady One is the card of patience and trustworthy follow-through, the recognition that slow and steady is its own kind of mastery. This is the unglamorous virtue of dependability, the methodical progress that actually finishes what it starts. The card honours the deep reliability of steady work while watching for the edge where steadiness hardens into a rut, the same step worn so deep it becomes stuckness.

Upright

When the Knight of Earth appears upright, you are called to steady, reliable progress. This is the slow build, methodical work, trustworthy follow-through, the dependability that completes what it begins. The card affirms the quiet power of consistency and invites you to trust the steady pace. Slow and steady is not lesser. Steadiness has become stubbornness, reliability has hardened into resistance to change, the body moves on autopilot through a groove worn too deep. The reversed card asks you to notice where your dependable routine has become stuckness, where the steady path needs a deliberate change of direction. It invites you to honour your reliability while staying open to the new.

Keywordsstubbornness · stuckness · resistance to change · the body in autopilot

The astrology

The Knight of Earth carries the elemental signature Fire of Earth, the active, driving aspect of the earthy suit, though here the fire is slow and steady rather than blazing. The chakra

The Root chakra (Muladhara) governs steadiness, reliability, and grounded persistence. In the Knight of Earth, the Root is fully expressed as dependable, methodical progress. In the Cocoon Method, this is the centre of trustworthy follow-through. When the Root is steady and flexible, reliability is a strength. Somatic prompt

Stand grounded and feel the steady, reliable weight of your body on the earth. Breathe slowly and bring to mind a long, methodical effort you are engaged in. Silently say: slow and steady, the body knows the way. Then check: is this steadiness serving me, or has it become a rut?
